Loved reading this the entire time. Grateful to learn so much about another culture.
I'm giving this a 3.5 and rounding up. Overall I enjoyed this book. Slow burn is truly the best way to describe this. The first 1/3 of this book was very slow to get through, there were a few times where I thought this was going to be a DNF. I really enjoyed the weaving of indigenous culture with a crime thriller.

YA read with Native cultures embedded
I liked the parts where I learned about the Native cultures, and the setting of UP in Michigan was nice. But for some reason it took me forever to get into this book (until I was about 2/3 through it) and I felt like some side stories and characters could have been edited out. I also did not care too much about the hockey stuff. It felt a bit too Young adultish for my taste. Still, worth reading.

Daunis Fontaine sees something she wasn’t meant to see. Unable to ignore what’s happening in her community, Daunis becomes a key player in an FBI drug investigation.
This is that book.
This is that book that you start reading and within the first few pages know it will something special.
From the characters, the storyline, the beautiful description of community and family, this book was perfection.
The kind of book that once you finish, you wish you could pick up and read for the first time all over again.

✨FIREKEEPER'S DAUGHTER by Angeline Boulley ✨is a murder mystery that goes beyond the traditional stereotypes of a mystery. In an indigenous community in America-the Ojibwe tribe, drugs have become silent killers, the drug-making business thriving. Meth is being mass-produced with herbs that are native to the tribe and are an intricate part of their rituals. And only someone with the deepest knowledge of the community can help these thugs in destroying the community from within.

This book was SO good!! I couldn't put it down! Being a Michigan Native, I loved that it takes place in Michigan. I felt connected to the story from the beginning and was captivated by the story. I loved the twists and the undercover aspect along with the love story. I definitely recommend!
