Not knowing how to pronounce a lot of the words was a struggle, but switching between reading the book and listening to the audiobook was helpful!
I think the representation was wonderful and I loved reading about the different native traditions, beliefs, etc.
Daunis was an amazing character and the plot was not what I was expecting in a good way!

I "read" this book with the Audio version. I am very glad I did! The Ojibwa heritage is truly captivating! I would never have been able to pronounce the words correctly; but still was absolutely worth "reading".

This book packed a lot in. I don't think I realized it was a YA novel until I started. There was a lot of 18-year old youthful drama, but it also covered a lot of adult themes, which sometimes felt incongruous: rape, murder, drug use, sex, police investigations. I learned a lot about Ojibwe and Anishinaabe culture, which were some of the highlights for me.
