WOWOW I loooooved this book!!!!
Definitely not a book I would have picked up myself, so grateful for friends that have me read outside my comfort zone!!
Kept me hooked literally the whole time. Was indeed a long book but I loved the characters, the plot, the culture, the native traditions, and the endinggg ahhh!!!
So good so good would definitely recommend

As author Angeline Boulley said, "Books are good medicine!" And despite the darkness, this book was good medicine! First of all, I loved that the story takes place in Michigan's UP. I also loved that the story features a strong Native woman as the protagonist. Loved it even more that the Ojibwe culture and community is so present in this story. I learned so much about the traditions and beliefs of the Ojibwe which I found to be absolutely beautiful. There are some questions I still have, but that doesn't detract from the enjoyment and quality of the story. Even at almost 500 pages long I could have kept reading. When I want more of a story and more of the characters long after I've closed the book, I know it was a good one!

A great book that give a glimpse into the way of life of Natives in America, with struggles and strengths of their own. Very touching and well written.

"More than four in five (84%) Native women have experienced violence in their lifetime and more than half (56%) have experienced sexual violence. Nearly all (97%) of the Native women who have experienced violence had at least one non-Native perpetrator. Although it is a difficult and exhaustive narrative, I felt it was important to show the painful reality of these experiences, especially within the specific context of the predatory targeting of Native women and the jurisdictional quagmire on tribal lands."
