It was a fun, nostalgic time for a fun Readathon I was participating in.

Maybe I would have liked it more had I read it as a child

I don’t recall reading this book as a child. But I’m sure it was read to me at some point, besides the cartoon movie. It was a cute book & I’ll never understand why it was banned because there are talking animals. It’s a children’s book, & of course there would be talking animals.
This story is about friendship & chosen families. Wilbur was a runt & meant to be eaten. But Fern stands up for him & takes him as her pet. As Wilbur gets a little older, he meets Charlotte. Charlotte becomes his friend & helps me not become Xmas dinner. She is kind & thoughtful, tough when she needs to be. All the good traits that are needed in a friend.
This book didn’t age well in one particular area for me. Fern, the 8-year-old girl who raised Wilbur for a while, is just a child. But her mother wanted her to run & play around, which by all means I’m behind. However, what I didn’t like was her mother was worried because she wasn’t chasing boys. And toward the end of the book, Fern doesn’t stay to see Wilbur get his grand prize. Instead she runs off with a boy, & her mom is happy for her.
Overall, this is a good book to read. And I’m glad I could have some nostalgia of my childhood.
