I remember reading this book many times as a child and always loved it. I decided to read it again as an adult for my Gilmore Girls Reading Challenge.
I cannot wait to introduce this story to my daughter when she gets older!

This story was so touching! I loved all the characters and I felt the joy of reading like a child again. What I liked the most about this book were the unique characters. The animals weren't the most popular ones amongst humans, but some we might fear or deem 'ugly', which made the story more interesting. Wilbur the pig was a great protagonist which faced challenges in life with great bravery. His friend Charlotte helped him a lot too, being a strategist and good writer. Their friendship was even more beautiful than the friendship between Wilbur and Fern. Fern was a character I thought to be very important for the story, which she was, but just really for the start, after that she is like an afterthought (which isn't bad, as we could thanks to that love Charlotte).
I did not expect this book to be so focused on friendship, as the cover made me think (yes, I never read the blurb, went in completely blind) that it's more of an adventure story, but I loved it nevertheless. It's somewhat a bit adventurous near the end, but I think the story is trying to make the readers feel emotional regarding the relationship between Wilbur and Charlotte. For me it worked. Sometimes short stories make me feel more emotions than long stories.
The story followed a simple structure of introducing characters and storyline, middle part where one finds out what the issue is + trying to solve it and the ending where everything is solved and a happy ending. It's simple, but it works (for children). The first part is mainly about the relationship between Fern and Wilbur, but the middle part lets Fern be more of a side character and give the spotlight to Charlotte who is essential for the story and its ending. I enjoyed her character a lot as well as the relationship she had with Wilbur.
Also, I don't know if it's just me, but parallels are making me feel something I can't describe. Like when a character says something that only they would say and then someone else starts saying it and one immediately thinks of that other character as it's like their thing.

“Salutations!” said the voice.
Wilbur jumped to his feet. “Salu-what?” he cried.
“Salutations!” repeated the voice.
“What are they, and where are you?” screamed Wilbur. “Please, please, tell me where you are. And what are salutations?”
“Salutations are greetings,” said the voice. “When I say ‘salutations,’ it’s just my fancy way of saying hello or good morning.
He was standing there, thinking of her, when he heard a small voice.
“Salutations!” it said. “I’m up here.”
