I finally got my 6-year-old to be interested in chapter books at bedtime, and this was the book that did it! Unlike many older children's books, this one has actually aged relatively well, so I didn't find myself cringing and having to interject my own commentary on problematic passages like in some books. There's suspense, there's humor, there's action, there's friendship, and there's just enough background description to paint a picture of the different seasons and locations without making my kid lose interest. This was the perfect book for us to make the leap into chapter books!

The book was written in a really interesting way - a prose that’s out of fashion. Neither good or bad, but interesting to notice. I was surprised by how cute the book was, while also having some very sad or bleak moments. Pretty good children’s story, can tell why it made such a splash

I somehow made it to adulthood and got a degree in English literature without ever reading this book. It was beautiful! Simple and sweet! And beautiful treatise about friendship and what it means to make, nurture, and savor friendships!

I read this to my 9-year-old daughter, which she too enjoyed. It's a fun story for all ages. It moves at a good pace and the ending was a nice fade out.

4.5 stars :)

Really enjoyed reading this with my 4.5 year old boy. It gave us lots of discussion and laughs and frowns. I’m surprised how many questions he had. It was great.

(Side note: I’m very surprised this is by the same author of Stuart Little which we gave 2 stars. So don’t skip this story if you weren’t a fan of Stuart Little!)

This book is great. It’s not 5/5 because I’m not going to be ranting about this book, but it’s really cute and a nice story.
