I really enjoyed the blend of historical

and

fiction
,

I

definitely
recommend reading it on paper instead of listening to it, I enjoyed being able to visualize the

documents

and

images
.

I did not get out of this book everything it could deliver.  I loved the format of the storytelling primarily through dialogue, as well as the multimedia aspects, but for all that I could see what Justin Torres was doing, it didn't have any emotional impact on me.  That said, I look forward to reading it again at a later date, in a different headspace, to see if it lands with the full force I believe it capable of.

DID NOT FINISH: 30%

Some super interesting ideas but the writing is so awful. No differentiation between characters and they all speak in high school Tumblr prose that makes me want to bash my head in. So inauthentic that at times it felt homophobic. Potentially fiction and traditional narrative is not something this author should be exploring.

In the end I don’t think I connected well enough w the characters to really want to keep reading …
