5/5 stars: It's a joy to catch up on the sleuthing adventures of Burdette's Florida food writer and critic Hayley Snow, her detective husband and her octogenarian best pal, Gloria. Burdette's characters are incredibly likable. Gloria is a gem and it was great seeing Violet and Bettina again (they first appeared in [b:A Scone of Contention|59386572|A Scone of Contention (A Key West Food Critic Mystery)|Lucy Burdette|https://i.gr-assets.com/images/S/compressed.photo.goodreads.com/books/1635234762l/59386572._SY75_.jpg|87116006], when Hayley and friends traveled to Scotland). Burdette's mystery perfectly blends the right balance of clues, red herrings and suspects that will leave you guessing the whodunit 'til the last page. Oh and you will not want to miss out on the deliciously yummy recipes included. This is the thirteenth book in the Key West Food Critic series, so be sure to pick up [b:An Appetite for Murder|11071581|An Appetite for Murder (Key West Food Critic Mystery, #1)|Lucy Burdette|https://i.gr-assets.com/images/S/compressed.photo.goodreads.com/books/1313838158l/11071581._SY75_.jpg|15992909], book one.

Key West on Saint Patrick's Day meets the Scottish Scene Sisters who are visiting to tape a baking show. All your favorite characters are there in this lively and delicious cozy with an exceptionally knotty plot. Lots of fun with great description food and a few recipes to boot. Thanks to netgalley and the publisher for the opportunity to read this book in exchange for an honest review.
Lucy Burdette has done it again in her amazing books. her characters are well written. Haley Snow with her police husband make a great team. Just like her food critic she does an amazing job trying to work and help with the scone sisters, she really was amazing. I didn't see it coming who the real killer is. An enjoyable read couldn't wait to see who wins and who is the killer.
Thanks to Netgalley and the publisher for the opportunity to read and review this title. This is the 13th book in the Key West Food Critic series and the first I've read.
What a great cast of characters! You can feel the history and connection of Hayley Snow and Miss Gloria.
Hayley is excited that the famous Scone Sisters are coming to Key West to film the US version of UK Bakes! They are acquainted from a previous book. The night they arrive, the B&B they are staying in catches fire then a dogwalker finds the owner (also the husband of one of the contestants) dead, and the murder weapon is connected to the Scone Sisters.
Hayley and her friend, Miss Julia investigate with the assistance of the Scone Sisters. The more they investigate, the more questions they have.
The supporting cast is a delight. I would definitely watch the Scone Sisters! While the identity of the murderer is pretty clear, the ride to reveal is fun. I enjoyed the relationships between these characters and will most likely seek out other titles in this series.

The Scone Sisters from Scotland are in Key West to kick off the American version of their TV and end up having a slumber party with Miss Gloria on her houseboat. With only three contestants scheduled for the bake-off, it's very inconvenient that only one can actually make anything edible and she's a suspect in her husband's untimely demise. With grudging acceptance from her police detective husband--who has to admit that people tell Hayley things that they wouldn't tell him, Hayley's on the case to track down the miscreants before serious harm can come to her friends! Great fun as always.

I love all these books. I grabbed this one on Libby the other night -- no joke -- because my husband was watching a house-hunting show set in Key West and I had an irresistible urge. This is an especially nice treat because of the Scottish connection -- I will be trying the cinnamon scone recipe. This one had me guessing. With the number of cozy mysteries I read, I should be better at figuring out the culprit, but alas. The writer did a really good job of befuddling me on a non-murder mystery -- who was the agent dude. Throughout the book, I would regularly think, what is up with this guy! I also liked that Hayley is resisting writing negative reviews for local restaurants. I don't normally write negative book reviews either.
Hayley and Gloria are delighted when their Scottish pals, Bettina & Violet, bring their UK Bakes! show to film in Key West. The bakers/contestants range from inept to competent to genuine star power. Of course there is a mysterious fire and a murder that is baffling and leaves the elderly ladies in grave danger as Hayley and hunky cop husband Nathan try to find the killer as the show must go on. I enjoyed this book, it did lag in the middle a bit with some running around and an odd character that made sense in the end. Once again, I was bamboozled by the killer-I was so sure I had it figured out but nope, I was wrong. Author Lucy Burdette keeps it real with her world building in Key West-the good and bad are here just like in real life; although living on a houseboat would make the sordid parts easier to handle! I did like the way she incorporated aging, respect for the elderly and choosing your friends as family. Violet and Bettina are great characters and I would read a series just about them...hint hint. 3 stars for book 13 (and the included recipes) as this fun series continues to chug along. I was given a copy and this is my own opinion. #AClueintheCrumbs #NetGalley
