I LOVE IT!!!!!! It’s everything I wanted in a high fantasy book AND MOREEE!!! Ok recap first:
The story is about a princess named Shiori, who was cursed by her stepmother, that for every word out of her mouth, one of her brothers would die. To make matters worse, her 6 brothers were cursed into cranes and cast from the castle, while Shiori had a literal BOWL stuck on her head but for some reason she cld see?? (This is the weirdest part of the curse, like I can’t quite figure out how someone wld look like this

At first, the main character was too juvenile for my tastes. This story became so much deeper and intriguing than I expected. I loved diving into a new kind of fantasy, and experiencing its cultural ties. It gave a new breath of life into the fantasy genre! The twists were very well done.
I understand why the main character was portrayed as being so juvenile, but it made her seem much younger than 17. The first few chapters weren’t that good to me because of this, but it got a lot better as the narrative progressed and she matured.

Very intricate YA fantasy with an interesting plot. I liked the character development of shiori and her stepmother. A book is only as good as its villain and the stepmother was a very interesting villain. I like the two love interests but I don’t think takkan is end game. He provided comfort to shiori during a time of need but I don’t think he can match her desire for adventure. I also like the small changes with the brothers.
Next book could be good or bad but i don’t think the demon villain will be interesting.
