Absolute must read for adolescents. A perfect harmony of of Neuroscience in layman's terms for everyone with real life accounts of addicts as well as an occasional dive into behavioral patterns and addiction psychology. Sufficient background and scientific research to satisfy the research community!

I was assigned this book in an online summer class by one of the least memorable professors I ever had. I assume I did not log it out of embarrassment, but as it came up in the recommendations of an even more deranged book, I would like to say that, by my memory, it was poorly written, wholly unacademic, and completely preposterous. I lost all of my remaining respect for the professor who assigned it simply by virtue of thinking that a self-help book was appropriate for a class called Pop Culture and American Politics.

This book is about what we know so far, scientifically about the effects porn has on the brain and body - more specifically how it damages men's sexual function and mental health.

Although this book is geared towards men, I thought it would be interesting to read since society is ridiculously sex-positive right now and while I feel it's obvious that porn isn't beneficial to society, I was curious to go down the rabbit hole to learn why, specifically.

This book was scary. Way scarier than I anticipated. It is neat because it combines science with mass amount of anecdotal data from forums. While anecdotal evidence isn't the strongest evidence in the world, it is crazy how many people report similar experiences regarding how porn has damaged their sexual function, confidence, and relationships. The science parts are written in a way that's easy for anyone to understand.

I feel like this book has helped me understand society more and I wish this information was talked about more.

Read this book!

Read for my Pathographies of Mental Illness class. Good information, but my god was it repetitive. This could have been 50 pages instead of 200.

Conflicting, in one word. Gary Wilson raises some rational arguments but can't seem to provide infallible evidence, instead resorting to anecdotal evidence. It's still an interesting read, and I would definitely rate it higher if the author didn't exhibit a weird anomosity towards pornography in general.

Admittedly, this book raises some valid concerns about Internet Pornography and its impact

this is just your standard low effort evo psych bs because, like everyone knows, we are all wind-up toys. it's basically a bunch of really sad stories, few of them sympathetic, but many are using internet porn as an scapegoat to justify viewing exploitative porn. it's basically 200 pages of that. being suicidal from being into bestiality is actually a very good thing

90/100. More people need to read this. I wish there was more studies in the book but as the author laments, they simply dont exist
