it was a really good story but something was missing and i just can put my finger on it. I think there is a lot of plot holes and holes in the magic system. It kind of made me feel a little disconnected from the story but there was the right amount of tension and romance & the story has a really good baseline. Hopefully book 2 make up for it.
Pleasantly liked this one — will give the second book a read. I am somewhat annoyed with the FMC, though. I find her personality boring and bland so it makes it hard to see the appeal. She sounds beautiful on paper and I just wish she had some personality to match. This judgment is only after reading the first book, so here’s to book 2

This book was such a wild and I loved every second of it!
I feel so much for Kat and everything she experienced. And I know she is not alone.
Bastian is now a top book boyfriend. I was swooning so much whenever he was on page. He helped give Kat control over her body and her life.
Loved the twists and turns. Jumping into book 2 now.

This was a little hard to read. Not because I didn't enjoy it, but because the author really nailed how a past victim of abuse thinks and behaves. If you find that triggering, consider that before you pick up this book. It's an ongoing theme and doesn't really let up until the very end.
I actually did like this book. It's kind of slow paced, as it's more political machinations than battles and action, but it didn't feel like it was dragging. The FMC has some really good growth and development.
The world building is a little lack-luster. The author seems to have based her world on Europe with her story being set in the equivalent of the UK, and that feels like a bit of a short cut. They also don't seem to have horses. Instead, people ride sabercats. Which is cool, but doesn't seem to serve a purpose other than to make the world more fanciful.
