The Last Piece of my Heart Review on K-Books

Paige Toon has forever been one of my favourite authors. Ever since I read her debut novel, Lucy in the Sky, back when I was in college I fell in love with her writing, her characters and her story. Her books inspired my love and passion for books so it's probably down to her books as to why this blog exists for me to be writing this review. I have read every single book she has ever wrote and I can't put into words how much I loved this book.

Bridget has had many relationships. She's fallen in love over and over again and lost a piece of her heart in every single one of them. When she rekindles her romance with her first love he persuades her to travel around and see all of her past boyfriends to ask them for the piece of her heart back. It would make a wonderful book idea. But when Bridget can't sell the idea she is given another job. To ghostwrite the sequel of a bestseller after the author tragically died. Now she is living in Cornwall and spending time with the deceased author's grieving husband and small child. As Bridget grows closer to them both Bridget's travels and her blog and her boyfriend seem a million miles away.

I loved this book. I mean LOVED it. I already loved Bridget before I read this book. She was featured in two or three of Paige's previous books and I already adored her as a character. In The Last Piece of my Heart I loved Bridget even more. You see different sides to her and I just felt like I went on this emotional rollercoaster along with her.

I loved every moment of this book. The romance, the emotion... everything. It was one of the most perfect books I've ever read and it is right up there rivalling Lucy in the Sky as my favourite Paige Toon book. Lucy in the Sky is still up there as my favourite but this one was very very close. If you love a good romance book I cannot recommend Paige's books enough. They are totally perfect and well worth the read.

I was sent the prologue and first 3 chapters by publisher Simon and Schuster via NetGallery in exchange for an honest review. It is rare for me to be hooked on a book right from the beginning but this book did it. I won't go in to the plot as this may spoilt it for others but I cannot wait to see where this story goes. I haven't read a book by this author before and didn't know what to expect but it is well written and flows at a good pace. Even with just 3 chapters the characters journey goes at a steady pace, setting the scene and the many possible paths her journey could take right from the word go. I will definitely be buying this book when it is released and would recommend others do the same.

This book was amazing and I recommend it to anyone who loves contemporaries. I loved the relationship with Charlie and April as well as Bridget's relationship with April

The best Paige Toon book I've read so far! Love, love, loved the ending.

You know, I think this book might have a little piece of my heart. A five star read from me.

Can you believe that up until recently I had no idea that to be classified as ‘romance’, the book has to have a happy ending? I assumed that it would be exceedingly common because lots of unhappy and unsuccessful relationships within a romance probably wouldn’t be that sort after, but I didn’t know it’s an actual requirement of the genre.

Anyway, the point I’m making is that did I know where this book was headed? Yes. Was I mad about it? Not in the slightest.

This was a really cute, fun, and heartfelt (albeit slightly predictable) novel and I loved it. It has flown to the top of my favourite Paige Toon books and made me even more inclined to pick up another one soon.

I loved the main plotline of this. I had never considered that books could be ghostwritten if an author dies without completing it, and I found this storyline really interesting. I loved going on a journey with Bridget as she researches a novel that she was never supposed to write, desperately hoping she can do justice to the original author.

And Bridget’s relationship with Charlie and April was just…I loved it so much. They were so cute together, a lot of the book was full of subtle glances and will-they-won’t-they moments and I thoroughly enjoyed it.

I definitely recommend this book if you love romance, or are looking to give Paige Toon a go.

Absolutely loved this book! Think this is one of my favourites of Paige’s although I always say that. Can honestly say that Bridget is my favourite main character though, just love how straightforward and honest she is. The story was incredible and had me crying one minute and laughing the next. Amazing book!

(3.5 stars) As a note, an e-galley of this novel was sent to me via NetGalley by the publisher in exchange for an honest review. This does not effect my opinions in any way. Review also found here.

This was my very first Paige Toon novel and I'm so very glad I picked it up. I was promised a good old fashioned escapists read and that's exactly what The Last Piece of My Heart served me. I loved it for that reason! But also... didn't always connect with it for the very same reason. That sounds odd, doesn't it? Well, I can't think of any other way to put it. There are books that are just so beautifully crafted that they leave a mark on your heart and this is one of those.

Which is why I'm not going to point out the parts of the novel that just weren't for me. Flaws are an ever present aspect of life and literature, and there's just no point in me tackling them in this review because The Last Piece of My Heart was much more than its flaws. And if this is only the beginning of what Paige Toon has to offer? I'm definitely giving her archives a second glance.

I was very fascinated by the plot-line of this book because, frankly, I haven't read many with this POV. No, this isn't to say that there's no books out there about writers who pick up other writers' work after it is left unfinished. There probably is. I have simply never read any, which is what made this quality so compelling to me. I loved that vibe that it gave, you know?

While skimming through the authors notes and traveling to get an idea of where this sequel should go, our main character is set upon a course she may not have expected. Toon provides readers with a heartwarming tale of the past and the future; writing, love, loss and so much more. The Last Piece of My Heart is more than just your average warm and fuzzies chick-lit release. It's a bit of a piece of heart itself.
