Read this for the "an author everyone has read but you" for the 52 Book Club. My thoughts while reading this book:
omg the sexism! omg the cliches!
I'm not 10 pages in and already I hate it.
Now I know why I've never read a Nicholas Sparks book. My instincts were correct.
Cliches on Parade
There isn't a single realistic moment in this book.
I've never read a Hallmark Movie before

I've moved from a Curiosity Read to a full-fledged Hate Read.

How dare 52BC make me read this crap????
Should I have read The Notebook? At least that has pop cultural relevance.

I chose this over The Notebook because the flap teased that there would be some conflict. There is no conflict.

Travis finds her attractive because 1. she'd be a good mother?? That's his first criteria?? [vomit]
So much nothing happens in this book
Part 2 - skipping entire pages
Of COURSE he refused to follow her wishes. and of COURSE she wakes up. Of Course she does.
Now I know why this author is popular with the masses. There is nothing challenging here. There is no real conflict. Everything is whitewashed and rose-colored, a fantasy of How Life Should Be = married, children, small town Good People. Escapist dreck. Which I wouldn't have a problem with if it were written at a higher than 7th grade level.
The best thing I can say about this is: I never have to read a Sparks novel ever again.

This is a typical Nicholas Sparks love story. Troubled woman meets charming man, falls in love with him, then some tragedy inevitably tears them apart. It was decent, but I felt like there was a lot of time spent on building up the relationship between the two characters and then relatively little spent on the relationship itself, especially since what happened during their relationship is such a catalyst for the end of the book. The sudden flash forward of several years was also slightly jarring and a bit rushed, in my opinion. Not a bad read, but not my favorite Nicholas Sparks novel.

Another quality read
Nicholas Sparks plots his characters into uncharted territory that many of his readers silently live through on a daily basis. Travis Shaw's story is another example of Sparks confronting our everyday mortality in a truthful straightforward narrative.

A Song This Book Reminded Me Of: Terrible Love (Alternate Version) by The National
Is it cheating if this song is in the movie??
Is it cheating if this song is in the movie??
I’m not usually this person but I saw the movie first and I gotta say, the screenwriters who adapted the story put WAY more emotion into the film. Just skip the book and watch the film instead.
