I went into reading this not having expectations but being curious and wanting to learn. I ended up loving it!

4.5 stars. I really enjoyed hearing the perspective of VP (and hopefully soon-to-be President) Harris.
I've been reading a lot of political figure memoirs lately, and this has definitely been my favorite so far. I think Kamala Harris is a very straightforward person, and it translates over to her position in politics as well as this book. Her career has been wonderful, but what this book does so well is show how she's dedicated herself to her career and taking the extra step forward to learn more, and do more.
I particularly enjoyed her simple explanations of political issues that can be complicated to understand. It was such an insightful and easy read, and especially if you tend to snooze (like me) about the nitty gritty details of some big issues.
It's also written in a very interesting time, finished(?) I believe around mid-2018, and this really brings the whole narrative together. The ending paragraph is the best way to sum up this book: "They [our children and grandchildren] will ask us where we were when the stakes were so high. They will ask us what it was like. I don't want us to just tell them how we felt. I want to tell them what we did."

Maybe not the best timing to read this the weekend before the election...

This is a great book in order to understand Kamala Harris' politics and what issues are a priority for her. It was well-mixed with information regarding those top-priority issues, as well as personal information to help tie all of the topics together. The writing was clear and concise, and I appreciated her call to action. She emphasizes throughout the book the impact of devastating truths on everyday human lives, repeatedly stating that there is no time to lose, because people are being affected now and cannot wait on a lengthy process to fix things.
this book made me feel that we have failed ourselves as americans. we failed ourselves & the electoral college failed us.
we chose a criminal over someone who cares? while her policies would benefit us- forget that for a second. we chose a criminal over someone who cares for us. it’s like the friend that goes back to that toxic ex even though they know they’re toxic. and i hate us for it.
