I loved everything about this picture book. The artwork was beautiful, and perfectly evoked the emotions conveyed in the story. Not a book I would use at story time with a group, but perfect to read one-on-one with a child. I will definitely be sharing with my kids this fall season.

The Scarecrow is a fantastic book. I love the gorgeous illustrations and the sweet story. The rhyming is easy to read and listen to.

When a scarecrow sees a baby crow fall out of its nest, he scoops it up and takes care of it. The story itself is beautiful and so are the illustrations.

What a surprise! This book wasn't on my radar until a coworker gave it to me and I'm glad they did. The illustrations are so vivid and the feelings throughout the book are palpable. I didn't expect to feel so much for the scarecrow and was pleasantly surprised.

For: lovers of scarecrows; readers wanting a book about finding your own family.

Possible red flags: feelings of loneliness and sadness.

Animals know not to mess with Scarecrow or his field but it leaves him feeling lonely. But when an injured crow lands at Scarecrow’s feet, Scarecrow does something different and it leads to a big change for Scarecrow.

Despite my “I grew up in farming country” brain yelling “but this Scarecrow would be FIRED for doing what this story depicts,” I loved every page. The rhyming prose was beautiful, the story touching, and the artwork just remarkable. Autumn used to be my favorite season – before I acknowledged that summer, sand, and ocean breezes fuel my soul. The drawings in Scarecrow are perfect seasonal representations with autumn taking center stage. Add this one to your fall reads – or even that “lets love one another despite our differences” stack.
