Maybe it was just my mood, but I didn't warm to this book as much as I thought I would. The lack of commas annoyed me as well. But would definitely recommend to 11-12 year olds and that's why I read it.

I had been planning to read this in the month of October for most of this year, and I'm so glad I did. A very good autumnal read.

The cover is stunning, and the writing style is equally beautiful. This was a surprisingly emotional book tackling issues of abandonment, an incapacitated parental figure, isolation, and difficulties adjusting to a new environment. I loved the character of October. She was a believable 11 year old and dare I say, possibly neurodivergent? Whatever the case, I loved her passion for being 'wild'.

Even as an adult, I'd say this was a very worthwhile read. So why haven't I rated it higher? The story was enjoyable, but the story, whilst ok for a one-time read, probably isn't exciting enough to draw you back time and time again. I highly recommend anyone to read this once.
