Thank you to the author, publisher, and NetGalley for providing early access to this audiobook in exchange for my honest review.

This was a compelling and twist-filled psychological thriller that kept me engaged from start to finish. I especially appreciated the fast-paced narrative and how easy it was to follow in audio format—perfect for a binge-listen.

I would give this a solid 3.5 stars. It was my first read by this author, and I’m definitely intrigued to explore more of their work in the future.

The story centers around Rose Howard, a high-profile investigative reporter whose life is unraveling—her career is at a breaking point, and her marriage is on the rocks. When she learns that her former best friend, Eve Castillo, has mysteriously gone off the grid during a stay at a peaceful North Carolina lakefront cottage, Rose heads to the small town of Sage Hill in search of answers. But what starts as a concerned visit quickly spirals into something darker.

The townspeople are cagey, the cabin owners’ stories don’t quite add up, and the tranquil town hides some deeply buried secrets. As Rose digs deeper, she realizes that some truths are dangerous—and uncovering them may cost her everything.

If Shanora can’t do anything else she can write. This was such a great page turner. The mystery and details were all there. This fast paced thriller will definitely keep you engaged. I couldn’t put the book down. Rose needs to put PI in her title as well. With all the negative that came from her bff she put the hurt to the side to find out the truth. Can’t say I would have done the same. Loved the twist at the end Eddie played his part. Was about ready to jump in and help. This is a great read and if you haven’t tried one of her book idk what you’re waiting one.

🔍 Bookish Thoughts
I listened to this in one sitting. Whispers of the Lake is my first book by Shanora Williams, and I’m officially a fan. The writing pulls you in right away, and both narrators were amazing.

Rose and Eve have such a complicated relationship. You might want to dislike Eve at first, but once you learn more about her backstory, it’s not so black and white. The book alternates between Rose’s POV and Eve’s diary, and that structure worked really well. My heart broke for Eve and what she went through. It doesn’t excuse everything, but it adds a lot of context.

I also appreciated the way the story wrapped up. Sometimes thrillers rush the ending or leave things open, but this one felt complete and satisfying.

📖 What To Expect:
• Psychological thriller
• Missing friend
• Investigative reporter FMC
• Dual timeline
• Friendship fallout
