Like a Sister

Kellye Garrett

3.28 AVERAGE

I loved this book. Packed with voice, loaded with suspense, and poignant as hell. This is the book that will get Kellye Garret on everyone's radar, where she belongs. LIKE A SISTER is a killer novel.

Slow to start, but the pace picked up at about the halfway point, making it a more enjoyable read.

The similes, metaphors, and use of the phrase “shitnuts” just about put me off the book however. It was too much.

Best book I’ve read in a while. Multiple twists I didn’t see coming and I AWAYS see this stuff coming. Plus Banhi Turpin is the best narrator EVERY in my opinion!

Book keeps you on edge and the mystery goes until the end. For such a good book, the ending was a bit of a let down

April Book of the Month Club Selection. Rounded 2.5 stars. This was quick read that helped me escape from a reading rut. I appreciated the diverse range of characters and backgrounds/experiences that we encounter throughout the main character's arc to solve the questions behind her sister's untimely death. However, I felt the answer to some of those questions was somewhat unsatisfying in that a major answer was resolved in just one sentence. The ending came abruptly after such a long web of possible leads and twists and turns.

I thought it was an okay read but definitely could’ve been better. I feel as though the author could have given us something more than what she did.

The similes were overwhelming.

Need a thriller to read at the beach? Look no further. The premise was literal catnip to me and I was happy to be along for the ride. The writing gets definitely clumsy at times and some of the leaps and turns and guesses of the case come out of nowhere way too fast, but it was all pretty fun and I hardly minded. I wasn't wowed by most of the characters but Desiree was the absolute standout, for all that the book opens with her death - all the glimpses we get are vibrant and charismatic and did a lot of the groundwork setting up Lena's grief and determination to get to the bottom of the case.

Anyway, I devoured this pretty quickly and I'm happy I did :)
