I really wanted to like this book, but there were a lot of things that annoyed me. The final reveal made literally no sense, and the author tried too hard to make Lena funny and relevant. Many phrases were way overused- I found “sh!tnuts” particularly annoying. On a positive note, the author did have some interesting observations on race, fame, and the music/reality TV industry. I enjoyed the way the author wrote family dynamics and really wish I liked this book more, but I just didn’t.

This book was meh. Hard to get into.

2.5 stars - it was entertaining enough. I'm not really a fan of thriller type stories, so take this as your grain of salt. Usually my complaints are that I don't like civilians investigating murders (check), I don't believe conspiracies are as common as writers like to use them (check), and no matter how many hints are dropped, I will never figure out whodunnit on my own (check). When the killer was finally revealed, I didn't believe their motivations, and then the story wrapped up super fast with little closure. I did enjoy the aspects of this around social media influencers, and the use of technology in ways that felt fresh.

I actually wrote a review of this for the library's website: https://carnegiestout.org/like-a-sister/

Good plot, interesting characters, and Bahni Turpin is a fantastic narrator.

Actually - 4.5 stars!!

Great twisty thriller, exactly what I needed after reading non thrillers lately. This one will keep you guessing to who did it till the very end!
