When PRK recs something, I'm there! That said, some of these articles were definitely better than others. There were 2 I ended up just skipping about halfway through. The whole collection was interesting in that, while some of the articles would probably be great as stand alone pieces, short form journalism tends to have a certain vibe that was strange to experience one right after the other in a collection. It might work better as something to pick up and put down rather than plowing straight through like I did.

Meh. Not sure what I was expecting, but this was mostly just articles from newspapers and magazines about true crime put together into a book. As an audiobook, it was fine, but not as aurally interesting as many true crime podcasts. Wouldn’t recommend.

Fun + quick, contains an interesting argument for gun control I hadn’t heard before
An interesting collection of essays on various crimes and topics related. The Ted Bundy one in particular was very good. A rather blah one on DeeDee and Gypsy Rose. but well worth a read
** I read an advance reader copy of this book. **
This was a well-put together collection of previously published articles that were, in one way or another, connected to the true crime genre. I particularly appreciated the article about an ER doctor speaking about gun violence and what emergency surgeons see every day when they work in an area with a high number of shootings. I also was surprised by the article about the lack of science behind 'blood spatter evidence'. It's used so much on tv shows and in stories, I guess I had always assumed that it had a good scientific basis. Turns out it doesn't. I had read articles about some of the crimes included in the book previously (the so-called Slenderman killings and Ted Bundy in particular) but still enjoyed reading the articles collected here. The article about Bundy was interesting as nothing I had read before really dug into the possibility of mental illness. All in all, this is a quick read with some very interesting articles!

I listened to the audio version while driving. Didn’t want to give it a 2, but it’s a 2.5
As a lover of the true crime genre this is an excellent round up of great stories that also helps you consider how true crime fits into society at large.
This was fine for what it was — a reprinting of a dozen or so true crime stories, several of which I was already familiar with and some new ones. I’d recommend this more for someone who doesn’t already read/listen to/watch a lot of true crime content.
