There is no revenge at the end for the guy that caused everything, and they brush off Nita and Kovit'd thing as no romance.

"If being good means you're going to die young, why would I ever be good?"

Probably one of the best finales I have read in a book series?? Granted, I don't have the best memories of the finales and my feelings on them in the completed series I have read (it's been a hot minute), but, regardless, this finale was still soooooo good.

As always, love Nita and Kovit and their weird ass queer platonic relationship, we truly love to see it. Fabricio was a great addition as a main character in this book (he was truly spitting bars left and right oml). And the plot and plot twists in this book were actually insane, had me gagged at multiple parts.

Genuinely such a weird trilogy, but I'm very glad I read it. More horrible, morally corrupt main characters, please! Their books r so fun 💞

Bonus Quotes Time! (There's a lot, I'm sorry) 🔪:

"'But Kovit? Kovit has you. And how long he has you, I don't know. One day, someone will have more anger than fear, and they will come, and they will kill him.' Gold's gaze was steady. 'And on that day, I will light a candle for the loss of the friend who could have been, and then I will celebrate the death of the monster that was.'"

"'I lost her. But I gained you.'"

"'I'm a liar, it's true.' Fabricio gave her a bitter smile. 'I had to be, to survive. I lied and lied and lied to stay alive. I lied so much that sometimes even I don't know what's true anymore.' He closed his eyes for a moment and his smile fell as he confessed, 'Sometimes, when I'm alone, I think I could have been a good person. In another life. When I didn't need to fight to survive. But that's just another lie. Because no one knows who they really are until they're tested the way we've been--and you and I, we both chose to survive, no matter what the cost. We gave up being good people to be living people.'"

"'Nita,' he breathed softly, 'what could I ever have done to deserve someone like you in my life?' 'There's no 'deserving' involved.' Nita smiled, sharp and sly. 'Sometimes bad things happen to good people.' His expression of confusion was adorable. 'And sometimes,' she continued, cupping his face in her hands, 'good things happen to bad people.'"

"But not even bones, only ashes remained when Nita rose"

Again I kept getting surprised at how good this book was

I’m sad that it’s the end of the trilogy, but happy I found it and loved it!

Being on the Dangerous Unnaturals List is an assured death. What will happen now that Kovit has been unmasked and his name is written on it?

This book wraps up a series full of murder, torture and secrets. There are many plot twists and the characters are not afraid to get their hands dirty.

The world building in this series is fantastic. I loved the inclusion of supernatural creatures in a realistic setting. We have real world cities and countries, but combined with these fantastic creatures, giving a great touch to the story. I also loved that they touched on issues of privilege, prejudice, racism and colonization; not only did they manage to create a world full of new characters, but they talked about real issues and adapted them to a fantastical context.

It's nice to see asexual representation. Nita and Kovit have an unusual bond, but I love that nothing was forced, and their sexualities were respected to give these two characters closure.

Here the characters are still killing people and fighting those who hunt them. Unfortunately I didn't see much character development in this book. The only one I saw was Fabricio, who was slowly making amends for his mistakes, starting with recognizing that his actions were wrong and feeling guilty. Although yes , he always makes it clear, one's own survival is necessary.

Overall, I am satisfied with this conclusion and the way the story ended.

CW: Dissection and dismemberment, murder, drugging and kidnapping, torture and mutilation, suicidal ideations, gore, cannibalism, emotionally abusive mother.

I can't think of anything to really dock a star from this. The end of Chapter 34 really was something though. It was a fantastic take on life that I feel like more people need to know. Or at the very least creators need to know and acknowledge, because there needs to be more of that in created things. I don't know how else to say what was written other than that way without giving anything away about what exactly was written about, but yeah.

Just for Chapter 34, I think that even if there were some sort of something that made the series have a point docked or something I still wouldn't take one off because of 34.
