This was just not great imo. I love a good YA murder mystery/thriller book, but this was super slow, I didn't care about any of the characters, and the reveals were just meh. Two stars instead of one just because the basic setup could have worked.

As I began this book I honestly did not think I would finish it. The beginning is somewhat slow, with a lot of repetitive thoughts from the main character who speaks in a voice that sounds much too mature for her age and personality we are told about. HOWEVER, as I got into the book more the voice became more natural and the story drew me in. The twists and turns that begin to appear about halfway through the book made it a real page-turner. I wish the story drew me in quicker, but I am so glad I stuck it out because the ending is A M A Z I N G for this mystery!

I really enjoyed this one. Loved the podcast episodes inside the book to add some backstory.

4.5 ⭐️ why are YA thrillers so good

I really wanted to like this book more than I ended up doing so.

First off, the chapters jump between the past and present. It wouldn't be so bad or confusing if it was done consistently but there are the occasional 2 chapters in the past, 1 in the present that would throw me off.

Second, the ending was a bit predictable. I won't spoil it for those who would like to read but I totally saw one of the plot points coming from a mile away. The other not so much.

Over all good. Wish the ending came a little sooner with less predictability.

I was so honored and thriller when I received an email from Kit Frick telling me I’d be a street team member! This book was a fresh look at a murder mystery complete with secret, scandals, lies, and a bit of an unreliable narrator.
