Absolutely Loved this book! I was surprised at how much I learned from this when at my age and with how much I've read about the civil war, there was still so much I did not know. Totally fantastic research all within great interwoven stories. I really wish I hadn't taken so long to get to this book.

Such a good premise but the characters were two-dimensional and the plot didn’t keep my attention.

There's not a lot to say. It's a good book. There's not a lot of violence, and the protagonists are solid, and never over the top. The authors note that many of the people and events in the book are based on family history/lore. They wrote a strong character-driven text.

I thought there would be more connection between the women in this story so I was surprised about that and I wish the connection between the two male leads was stronger.

This book deals with some very difficult topics, but the authors did a good job of discussing + shedding light on it.
