A classic worse reading! The story is so much deeper and better than all it's adaptations. I loved the evolution of Tarzan and his story. I loved this book!

Unlike what I was expecting, this is quite a fun book, writing-wise, but it was written in 1912and it shows. There's so much fail in it (child development doesn't work that way/genetics don't work that way/that should be a tiger, not a lion!) that it makes it unintentionally funny.

As a scholar the ending makes me very happy l, but as a casualties reader it is extremely frustrating

I read this book because my dad has told me for many years that it's one of his favorites (well, it's actually the second Tarzan book, but you really need to read the first book first). And Dad has pretty good taste most of the time, so I thought I'd give this a shot. It's very different than I thought it would be. It's super exciting, very violent, pretty racist, and it ends on a cliffhanger. I can see why the story has endured, but I can also see why the story was changed so much for the Disney movie. It's not very child friendly. But I really did enjoy it, so I'll probably read book 2.

This book was a present, I hadn't intended to read it, but I'm glad that I did. I thought I knew the story well from the old black and white movie and countless pop culture references, but there is so much more. It was similar to reading Sherlock Holmes mysteries in that it has the same tone, feel, and time period. If you want a quick read and something that is page turner read this. The dialog in parts is pretty hokey and the ending is so neat and happy that it is a little sickening, but that can easily be written off. It's not great, but it's entertaining.

I listened to this on audio. My only knowledge of Tarzan came from Hollywood TV shows and movies, so I really enjoyed hearing the original source material. Written in 1912, there are, of course, some cringy bits, especially about the Black natives of Africa. Overall, though, it's a fast-paced adventure story that kept me riveted. The book's history (told in the foreward and afterword) was fascinating; it had a major impact on pop culture, at the time and still continuing today. This was the first of 24 books that Burroughs wrote in this series, and it left me wanting more!

This book was refreshing and hopeful, and I loved it. I respect Tarzan so much, and I am in love with all of the choices that he made. He has much more
