Very artful, human, and down-to-earth. I appreciated Baer's style and emotional honesty. Excellent read
I'm not normally a reader of poetry, but this book was fantastic. I took my time and read a poem or two a day and mulled over them. Honest and raw, these poems really spoke to me and my own experiences as a woman, wife and mother
I‘ve never been a fan of poetry… it’s not something I’m drawn to and any time I’ve picked up poetry in the past, I’ve lost interest 2 minutes into it. Give me any type of genre beside poetry and I’m good.
“What Kind of Woman” threw me for a loop. Such a beautiful, engaging and relatable collection of poetry, I’ve read this not once, not twice, but three times this year. It’s been my “palette cleanser” of reading when I’ve finished a book, am not motivated to pick up a new one, yet also feel compelled to read *something*. With every read, I’ve been hooked and always sad when it ends. There’s beauty in how quick you can devour this collection.
Hauntingly beautiful, these poems brought me to tears at times, and made me chuckle in self-recognition at others. I felt seen as a woman, as a mother and as a wife. My heart ached. Each poem can stand alone but the author strings them together so perfectly, it’s like you’re reading a story that unfolds in your hands.
Highly recommend reading these out loud - there’s something lyrical and magical about each one.
If poetry isn’t your jam but you want to dip your toe into the waters, read this gem.

Amazing, brilliant, moving, touching. Finished it in one sitting and then was very sad when it was all over. One of those books that I will spend a lifetime reading and enjoying.
Poignant, relatable, and beautiful poems on being a woman who lives into her multitudes. Kate Baer is sharp-tongued and soft-spirited; her collection a sweet, fiery exhalation.
For now just remember how you felt the day you were born: desperate for magic, ready to love.
I have thoughts, and I keep wavering between 3 and 4 stars. Not every poem was for me, but I think that's how a collection of poetry is and should be. Some sit right, some sit wrong, some scrape, some smooth, some linger, some leave.

2.5, i like the style but I'm not that into poetry and I could not care less about motherhood. many of the later poems felt all the same to me
