What Kind of Woman: Poems

4.0 AVERAGE

I laughed, I cried, I was deeply moved by these poems. There are many I will go back to again and again. There is beauty and wisdom here that is both simple and stunning.

“This is not a dress rehearsal before a better kind of life.” from To Take Back a Life is a quote I will carry with me through my days of parenting my 4 kiddos and trying to hold onto myself in the midst of it. Kate put words to feelings in a way I never could.

Part two was easily my favorite, though it was all wonderful.

These poems we’re definitely good and i appreciate the effort made to verbalize the women experience. the poems weren’t groundbreaking but they were emotional and honest and what more can you really ask for?

This was perfection. I've never read poetry that made me stop in my tracks and cry until I read this.
emotional reflective fast-paced

I didn’t connect with this collection quite as much as the last two Baer collections I read, probably because the focus felt more on motherhood and being a wife, and I am neither. That said, still a great little book of poetry that I really enjoyed!

Beautiful. Kate Baer captures being a woman, a friend, a wife, a mother so perfectly. I couldn’t stop reading the poems aloud. I have already read through them twice and I imagine I will read them again and again.

I really liked it, and think mother's would love it.

Been savoring this, reading a poem or two at night before I sleep. And I keep thinking only this: Thank you, Kate Baer, for using your words to unapologetically and candidly remind & teach me about my own experience through your experience. Thank you. These words are necessary.
emotional sad medium-paced

I unabashedly bought this volume because the cover was lovely, but many of the poems ended up really resonating with me, particularly those in Parts II & III, and particularly her poems about motherhood.
