Finally something to pull me out of my Onyx Storm hangover.

I've read Pride and Prejudice about 20 times and read a number of published fanfic works like this, but none have pulled me in like this. I always had a soft spot for Mary so to see her as the heroine in her own story gave me nothing but joy.

Half a star lost just because part of the ending was so very unsatisfactory to me.

God I wish there were a rating higher than 5 stars.
It’s been a very long time since I’ve read a book where the main character so plainly is a reflection of who I was, and who I have become. There’s something to say for healing your inner child, watching someone who is so much like you fight tooth and nail to love themself, and to find happiness, and to see them SUCCEED.
I love Miss Mary Bennet like I love myself, and I have Janice Hadlow to thank for introducing us.

Lizzie and Jane were always close.  So were Kitty and Lydia.   But Mary was always stuck in the middle by herself.  After all her sisters marry and leave home,  she's left feeling more alone.  Without Jane's beauty,  Lizzie's wit or Lydia's charm, she feels she has nothing to encourage a man to marry her.

It's a bit slow in some parts and a bit dialog heavy but overall a good book.

The first half of this had me enthralled and in tears, emotionally attached to poor Mary through all the barbs directed at her.
The rest, while entertaining, and so well reminiscent of Pride and Prejudice, didn't quite keep my focus as well - I found myself easily distracted.
A satisfactory ending all around, I'd be keen for a book telling the story of Miss Bingley next, given her character arc in this novel...

2023 re-read: Yep, so many tears for poor Mary in the first half. Boy is she treated like rubbish.
