"FREAKING NUNCHUCKS"

The first book of a fresh new series that fuses romance with urban fantasy is fascinating. It takes readers on a thrilling journey through the complex world of Nemaine, a feline shapeshifter who has to fight against PTSD, trauma, and betrayal while trying to seek revenge and safety for herself and her loved ones.

While some readers may find the plot and character development familiar, the author's exceptional world-building and diverse characters make this book stand out. The vivid descriptions and attention to detail bring to life the unique and intricate world of the story, making it feel like a real place.

The book leaves readers with a cliffhanger that hints at the exciting adventures and challenges in the next installment. This book is a must-read for urban fantasy and romance fans looking for a captivating and immersive read.

What I loved:
🩶 Nemain: morally grey FMC. She is my favorite to date. I love her take-me-or-leave-me attitude.
🩶 Jinx: If anything EVER happens to him, I might cry. I love his grumpy.
🩶 World Building: New Magic, worlds, and creatures
🩶 Found Family/Uniting of different creatures

Hmmm

I'm not going to lie I struggled off and on with this book. The main character is sexual with so many of the other characters it made her seem a bit shallow. I feel like the author could have reduced that and it would have made her seem less flighty. Idk maybe I'm just a prude. But it was a great story line and I enjoyed the plot beyond that minor wince.

Thank you so much to NetGalley for sharing an ARC of A Shift in Shadows in exchange for an honest review.

This novel is a really fun and quick read, for fans of contemporary fantasy I think this would be right up their street. It's gritty and dark, and doesn't pull any punches when it comes to the realities of living in a world filled with paranormal creatures.

I loved Nemain and her complicated relationships with those around her. She was a really fun and well rounded main character.

I'm not a massive contemporary fantasy lover, I much prefer high fantasy but I did enjoy this book even if it wasn't 100% for me. If you're a fan of The Vampire Diaries, I think this would be the perfect grown-up read for you.

It's a great first book in a series and I'm excited to see where the book goes.

A diverse urban fantasy with a 300+ yr old FMC hell bent on revenge… say less

I really enjoyed this world. It is set on earth but explores how other realms exist with Fae & demons ect. It has allll the magical creatures, mermaids & vampires & warewolves! With a lot of them residing amongst the humans

I started this series last year but was waiting for audio as this is the type of book I prefer to listen to & I really enjoyed it.

I did find the 60% mark felt a bit slow. But the characters pulled me through & by the end with a few plot twists it has me interested in continuing the series.

I love the queer norm world
I love the morally grey FMC
I love the mystery that I can tell has only just begun.

Slow burn 2 🌶️
