Pregnancy trope killed the whole story

Audiobook:

I literally could NOT listen to this. I have never in my life requested a refund for a book, audiobook or movie. But I had to make an exception for this. I really liked the male narrator but the female narrator was atrocious! Her version of “inflection” and “tone” was just whispering. The smexy scenes that she narrated were AWKWARD AF! Her voice was so boring I had to listen to it on 1.6 speed just to make it more interesting. It was so bad I actually gave up at the half way mark and returned the audiobook!

The book:

After returning the audiobook, I downloaded the book on KU and read the last half and enjoyed it much more! I actually wish I had read this from the beginning.

Lethal is about Jason and Eve. Jason is the president of a Motor Cycle club. Eve works at a carnival, lives in a trailer park and takes care of her sick father and druggie brother. Jason basically kidnaps Eve and decides to make her his “property” because her brother owes Jason’s MC’s money.

I like MC novels and this was very typical MC: misogynistic men who see women as a piece of meat. Since this is fiction and I’m familiar with this trope, it didn’t bother me. Also, I am a sucker for an alpha-hole, which Jason definitely was! Eve annoyed me sometimes, but she was tolerable most of the time.

Ok writing but nonsensical story and main characters with few to no redeeming qualities

DETESTABLE MAIN CHARACTERS
Atrocious heroine x asshole hero
the characters actions/ words/ ways of thinking is plain AWFUL.
Skimmed after the 65% mark because this book was a waste of my time.

I struggled with how to rate this because I honestly could not put it down, but there were also things that bothered me the whole time. I loved how obsessed Blade was with Eve, but I hated the constant threats of "I'm not cut out for monogamy." I get that he was confused because he had never really felt that way about a woman before, and it didn't really mesh with his lifestyle, but the constant back and forth was a little annoying. What bothered me the most though was that Eve was presented as innocent and naïve, but in the end, she was a liar and manipulator. Blade did stuff that I didn't agree with, but he never tried to come off as anything other than he was or pretend like he wasn't a bad guy. I would have respected Eve more if she had done the same. I also think I would've enjoyed this a little more if I hadn't listened to the audiobook. I wasn't a huge fan of the female narrator.

What a fabulous world of anti-hero goodness.
