It totally broke my heart and made me cry so much at 2 am. This series is so gorgeous <3
I'm literally sitting on my bed rn and I have been crying for the last thirty-ish pages of this book. Marie Lu has outdone herself once again. It's confirmed now: she is my favourite author.
I cannot even express all my feelings towards this book, this story, this trilogy. I'm just overwhelmed by emotions. This is just great. I can't even.

For a final book in a trilogy it felt a bit too short and uneventful.
I can't believe I finished this book in a day. WOW, what a journey! Marie Lu has done it again, people. She is AMAZING and so is this series.
Amazing, First off, the description of the book promised a quest, but we don't really get that until the last half, maybe even the last quarter, but even though it isn't quite was promised, I still liked it and the rest of the book. Second, I loved and never expected the ending! It was great and I definitely cried reading it (plus I stayed up too late to finish it). Great book, and a great ending to the series.
I'm no longer numb, I am a mess. Marie Lu, why. how dare you play with my emotions so deeply. I AM WOUNDED. There will be a full review of the final installment of The Young Elites, along with a general reminisce of the whole series. Keep a look out! http://rockdiv6.wixsite.com/cierrascynosure
The Midnight Star came out a week prior to authoring this review and I still have not recovered. If this were an emoji review, you'd find a whole lot of shocked faces, mad faces, and then a lot of ugly crying faces. But overall, there would also be a big content face at the end because The Young Elites trilogy ended with the most beautiful and perfect ending I could have asked for.
Oh, I was scared. I've been burned before. I've been singing Adelina's relative innocence in her depravity. She's misunderstood! Look at how society and her own parents treated her! Who could blame a girl?
Anyways, The Midnight Star is a beautiful ending to a gripping tale of one girl's rise to power. I so did not predict the direction it was going to take and that is totally fine by me. Trilogies have been pretty hot the last 10 years so how does The Midnight Start stack up next to its peers? Share your thoughts in the comments...Here are mine.
Mockingjay: About the same amount of trauma inflicted on all of the characters we've grown to know and love. If PTSD was a thing in the world of TYE, our main characters would need a whole bunch of therapy, just like our friends living in District 13.
Allegiant: Well, you won't find yourself regretting all the years you spent reading and waiting. The ending doesn't come out of left field - you're walked through it and there's a satisfying resolution.
The Selection/The One: You'll know when The Midnight Star is over, it's really over. No second set of books (side note: I love The Selection all the way through, but I understand about letting sleeping dogs lie).
Ignite Me: We all love romance but The Midnight Star does not focus on the romantic relationships between characters. This is Adelina's story and it's not muddled by a love triangle.
The Last Star: The Midnight Star could have been a one sentence ending with 300 more blank pages and it would have been better than The Last Star. But seriously, The Midnight Star honored each of its characters and gave everyone the time and space to resolve what needed to be resolved.

I honestly didn't think it could get better after how amazing The Rose Society was, but this book most definitely proved me wrong! I was absolutely spellbound from start to finish and I absolutely adored the unexpected twist it took!
This book started off with Adelina being even darker and more twisted than where we left off in the last book and I really loved every second of it! But then the story went in a direction that I totally wasn't expecting but that ended up being SO perfect! I loved seeing all the characters come together again and how the interacted with each other, considering everything they've put each other through at this point.
The character growth in this novel was truly spectacular! In some cases it was actually hard to believe how far some characters had come and I was surprised at how much my opinion of them changed, especially Teren! And I've really grown to love all of the characters, they're each so amazing in their own ways and really make this story what it is. Adelina is still my favourite though, she becomes so dark and ruthless throughout this series and seeing her growth in this final novel is truly stunning!
Another thing I REALLY loved about this series is that we do have various love stories sprinkled in but they are FAR from being the focus of the story. They are subtly woven in and they all add to the story in beautiful ways. And they don't all necessarily have happy endings which I really appreciated despite having my heart wrenched out!
I definitely didn't think this was how the series would wrap up but after reading those beautiful and yet heartbreaking final 50 pages, I really couldn't have imagined a better ending to this story! My only regret is that I've already finished this trilogy, it's such a stunningly dark and haunting world and I already want to immerse myself in it again!
