The Midnight Star

Marie Lu

4.02 AVERAGE

The last 50 pages of the book was so darn boring i only skimmed thru them but it was quite enjoyable thus far

4.5

Out of all the books in this trilogy, I have never been this happy and sad after reading the last book.

Young elites has been a great introduction. The world building is great and I wanted more of it.

Rose society made me fall in love with Magiano and each chapter made me really crave for him more as if I'm craving for air.

But this, Midnight Star, I'd rather not eat breakfast than to have a break from reading it. I regret finishing it as soon as I can because the moment I closed the book, I am missing them.

The last pages were a chefs kiss

Darker and darker as the books go on

Ahhhh I love love loved the ending?! It brought tears even as I read it a second time. Simultaneously satisfying and bittersweet and heart-wrenching? :') How am I going to find my heart back now that the series has ended??

I'm glad Adeline has
Spoilerredemption
, though it was probably expected. I just loved that it became a love between the sisters, kind of like Anna saving Elsa in Frozen. Magiano is just so sweet, it's almost unbelievable. And the writing!! Poetic and lovely and readable.

Many times we read books at the end of a hero's conquest. I was first drawn to the series because it was an anti-hero that we would cheer on. And it seemed like she had gained everything there was, so I was pretty excited to see how her life would go on (except we knew it wasn't totally happy. Does a villain deserve happiness?). I'm glad this book explored ramifications of our choices, and of the idea of doing right/moral duty.

The title was...hmm. Not very compelling. I guess each books marks a distinct point of Adeline's journey.

P.S. My favourite details were the snippets of quotes from the Young Elites world. It just makes me so sad that the world with so much potential for exploration ends after a three-book journey.

3.75 stars. I understand why the ending was necessary, but I'm not a fan of those kind of endings.

It is a truth universally acknowledged that I will ugly cry at the end of a Marie Lu series. This end to Adelina's story was beautiful, heartbreaking, and just magnificent. Lu is still one of my favorite authors. This story was just as epic as the Legend trilogy. Now excuse me as I go cry some more and wallow in all the feels.

**3.5**
Feeling super petty giving it this rating because I know if something hadn't happened I would've given it the 5 stars. But I can't get over it today, tomorrow, OR EVER!!
