3.5 stars - I liked how this wasn’t a typical thriller or whodunit. It was good enough to want to read the first 2 books in the series.

So slow. Like so slow. Kinda intriguing, but when it comes to murder mystery/catching a killer vibe, I need more pep in the step. The ending was a decent twist, and there were a couple other moments, but I felt like I had to go into hyper speed read mode to get there.

Enjoyed it more than the first book, A Kind Worth Killing. That is, once I realized it was the same series. Never read the second book, and honestly, I don't think I need to. Lily and Henry, the two returning characters, still feel flat and weird. The other characters also lacked depth, so can't say I was very invested in them, and therefore, their endings mostly just earned a shrug. The twists weren't very "twisty" and the very last bit felt unnecessary. Almost thrown in there as a "I need another 'aha' moment." But no, you didn't. But still, it was a quick and easy read and offered a few hours of entertainment after having finished a dramatic fantasy trilogy and an emotional novel.

I didn’t like this book. It was okay, but I didn’t like how there were multiple POVs and it didn’t tell you when it switched, you had to figure it out yourself, and some POVs were third person and then there was one that was in first person which I didn’t like. The plot was fine for like a third of the book then it got boring. I got this book from BOTM and I didn’t realize until I started reading it that’s it’s the third in the series. I don’t think you HAVE to read the other books but because I didn’t I felt like I was missing things. Also I really hate that BOTM has options that are technically part of series and they aren’t more clear about it
