This isn’t my normal genre, but I read it in 2 days. It really captivated me and I enjoyed it. I’m looking forward to the second.

Holy shit wtf. This was trying to be so many things and just straight up failed at most of them. I am once again bamboozled by an Instagram reels recommendation. Nox and Aster's relationship would have been heartwarming if they had actually had enough time and moments in the book to convince the reader that they have more than surface level feelings for each other!!! And omg the way women are treated as wall pieces in this book??? Like not every scene has to have a "hey guys we're in the room while you're talking about us" moment.... in fact I would say one should be the maximum if you're trying to portray your MMC as considerate...,, Also Aster goes from completely not caring about her kingdom to having very strong protective feelings about it in a WEEK- but nooo we don't get to see any of that progression, but we do get to see them watching reality TV about werewolves... make it make sense. The dialogue about abuse was important to have, but was constantly overshadowed by weird sexual innuendoes that felt very out of place after tense emotional scenes. This book was honestly so infuriating, but I think with massive editing and changes to scenes it would maybe be okay? because why was I kinda invested during the trial thing.

Anyways, here are my notes about this while I was reading it:

-is everyone in the seelie court a creep or smth? how can aster not walk around or take one bus without someone being weird??
-how is she not more freaked out by Nox stalking her!!!
-how is Nox telling her “well known details” about her own situation from the very society she lives in??? like this CANNOT be news to her unless she literally never interacts with anyone/any news ever
-genuinely what is the actual plot of this book,,, what are they trying to accomplish. the dialogue goes from an asinine simplification of a museum job to overly discussing what is going to be eaten for dinner to glossing over the whole power structure of the kingdom, etc.
-if a random man touched my lips after stalking me all day i would punch him
-Bro if Nox is a king,,, doesn’t he have like shit to do… from what i can tell his country isn’t running itself
-WHY IS EVERY MAN IN THUS UNIVERSE A WEIRD HORNY PIECE OF SHIT
-okay lemme get this straight from the flashbacks: she killed her parents and then her uncle molested her??  that’s fucked
-zero yearning, zero build up in this goddamn book
-“didn’t want to catch his attention more than i already had” girl he literally stayed in your house overnight and held you after your nightmare what kinda oblivious bs are you on
-oh this poor girl is absolutely traumatized :( even more of a reasonf for Nox not to be saying kinky ass shit after she just got abused by her molester???
-why would Aster have any ounce of allegiance to the Seelie court after what her uncle has done to her? what is not computing about that for any of these characters
-i just know there’s gonna be a whole “plot twist” about how Aster didn’t know she has crazy powers when literally every other sentence alludes to it for us like we’re not dumb
-does bro have something possessing her or smth
-Aster being to mean to Lil just because she’s worried about her and wants her to better herself is SIXKENING
-the way assault is used as a way to move the plot forward and not discussed in a more nuanced & respectful way is really disheartening to see
-possessive ass uncomfortable ass man!! let her friend into her sick room??? duh.
-Lil & Raven’s mom being on the in with the evil king guy?? wtf  literally what motivation does she have to do that? she knows he’s a molester and a shit person?
-once again, whole ass world changing plot point is dropped, and then next day they’re chilling watching reality tv on the couch
-“he’d definitely killed before” and she literally doesn’t gaf
-girl fully went to university and whatnot  and doesn’t know shit about her own species
-what kinda ass plan is this - why are they sending Asteria in? Why not have her speak for herself? or find a way to kill the king??
-so how is Nox still alive???
-i can’t even keep up with this anymore, but as my last note: I imagine Nox and Raven as aggressive chihuahuas whenever they get all “i’m a man and have this claim on Aster a bla bla”
-okay sorry i can’t resist: “you’re capable of it with your magic” SHES NEVER USED HER MAGIC BEFORE
ewww i hate having no checks and balances and no nuance and no rhyme or reason to this world building!!!
-“I trusted him with my life completely” WHEN WAS THAT TRUST BUILT??? in the last ONE day??? helloooo
-TWO SWXONDS AGO they were like “we can’t fuck the world is ending” ONE SECOND LATER.. “let me show you how little I know you”
-the SHEER AMOUNT of times Aster has been talked about as though she’s not in the room when she is and it’s just a dick battle between Raven and Nox,,, sooooo annoying
-“i’ve been having dreams about you for years” bro you’re FIVE MILLION YEARS OLD and she’s 22,,. how many years is a few.

I need the next book right now

DNF 60%

I actually haven't finished this book yet but honestly this thing could literally fart a unicorn into my bedroom and I would still give it 2 stars.

These Fates that Bind Us (or more accurately, the Wish.com Crescent City) was a doppelgänger of Sarah J. Maas series. Like verbatim. In fact, I'm actually wondering if this is like a prank or a joke? Or FanFiction? Idk but did she AT LEAST get a royalty????

FMC, Aster (a flower I actually like - last positive thing you'll read from here on out) is a pArTy GoRl. She likes tequila and vodka and hot boys. And she lives with her BEST FRIEND, Lili (who doesn't die bc that would be like waaaaaaay too obvious, copyright might actually pick that one up). They have one male friend, who was at one point estranged because the royalty didn't like being threatened named Raven (Ruhn Daanan, is that you?!?!).
Aster, was abused by her UNCLE (not her dad, again, copyright would be angy-face-pissy-voice over that one) who has usurped the throne from her because she's the STARLIGHT PRINCESS (lololololololololol please).

Nox, MMC, is literally the son of an angel, has wings and the actual sex-appeal/personality of a tin can. He's like 9-million-and-42 years old, but apparently he's been waiting for this 21 year old party girl who has never, not once NOT been a pick-me-bitch, for all 9 million of them. They might as well just say COPY PASTE Hunt Athalar but let's make the banter akin to like 2am Hinge boys with fish in their profile picture (read: hey, you up?) and lets make you just a fucking bore. I wouldn't risk $5, let alone DEATH for this wonder-bread fairy man PERIODT.

I'm wondering if anyone has the publishers address because I need a place to send the bill for the glasses I need after rolling my eyes so many times that they're stuck permanently rolled.

I literally don't care what the ending of this book is because it's such hot garbage that there's no saving it. Its unredeemable. It's a 3 day old tuna sandwich left on a park bench. Eating it is kinda weird for a dare, but you feel like shit once you did it and you have so many questions.

The character development: trash. The romance: makes me want to lay on an interstate. The clear copycat plot line: if I could sue I would.

It's like that Tik Tok trend where they're like "EVERYONES SO CREATIVE" but it's like a sculpture made of macaroni salad. That's this book. Your friends in book club were like "yaaaaas girl, write the book!" in the group chat, but you should stop being their friends because they fucking lied. I'm sosososo tired of picking up indie published books and having them be bad copies of extremely popular series, that you were obv inspired by, but have no original thoughts in them whatsoever. Please stop. We're begging.

TLDR: just read Crescent City and save yourself. And quit ordering shit off Wish.com - it's just not worth it. Obviously. just ask this book.
