I didn’t enjoy this final book in the trilogy as much as the previous two, but it was still a fun ending to the series!

A decent conclusion to the trilogy, but I felt it got really hokey with all the chants and prophecies. But still I enjoyed it.

Wow, this series derailed big time for me. Yes, I've been busy and stressful in life, but usually that's when I want to pick up my book and escape for awhile. This book? I always wanted to put it down. I quite liked [b:Year One|34311452|Year One (Chronicles of The One, #1)|Nora Roberts|https://i.gr-assets.com/images/S/compressed.photo.goodreads.com/books/1488360073l/34311452._SY75_.jpg|55367060], and in general I find Nora Roberts to be a compelling storyteller. But ugh. The things she did well in the other books—character development, world building, describing the setting, etc.—took a back seat to two main things—strategizing military strikes and carrying out military strikes. Yawn, yawn, yawn. Oh, and there was also some generous sprinkling of romantic angst between Duncan and Fallon, which seemed ridiculously B for Nora Roberts to be writing. I almost gave this book 2 stars because she does include some brief scenes with the New Hope originals that were some nice bright spots, but I decided against it because you know what? I just didn't like this book.

The fine print: received ARC from Edelweiss.

Finally! This book took me way too long to finish! It took the fun away from reading! So I guess the question is why I didn't like the book. Well, as I predicted from my review of the second one this one also had the reader reading more about the planning and predicting then the actual war and fighting. It gets really boring when you are 400 pages into it and they are still planning the same war they have been trying to plan since 200 pages. Then, if that isn't agonizing enough the actual war barely lives up to how long it took to get there.

I have to say there were some elements to the book that surprised me, like for example when Petra became evil. I was not expecting that and I definitely didn't predict her to be the daughter of Eric and Allegra. For the amount of time, it took for them to plan how to take her down and when it was FINALLY "the right time" (whatever that means) well it just seemed like it was way too easy. Once they killed the dragon it was just like one hit and she was dead.

I also found myself rolling my eyes way too often. Towards the end, it got under my skin so much when every other page had more visions where Fallon would start saying weird stuff and then all the other characters would start trying to guess what it meant. It just doesn't make the stupid prophesy and visions as exciting when Fallon has them SO OFTEN!

The only reason I didn't give it one star is because I do have to give some credit to the author on the way she was able to build the characters. Although, I did get REALLY pissed off that she just HAD to kill off Mick. It didn't even make me cry it just made me annoyed. Fallon and Mick finally came to terms with everything between them and he talks about how he's so happy and then he does some celebrating flips and then BOOM a hit through the heart! So, I guess that it is a valid method to kill off characters suddenly, and it isn't that I think it was stupid for the author to do that, I just got annoyed as the reader because I liked Mick.

I liked that Duncan and Fallon ended up together but again I found myself rolling my eyes at the things they said to each other about how they were pledged to each other and that they were meant to be together because of all these connections and stuff like that. Overall, I would never even think about re-reading this and I'm so happy that I can move on with my life.

I read the 3 books in the series, one after the other and loved each one of them. I have never really been into "fantasy" as such, but these books were incredible!

Not my favorite, mainly because I don’t like war stories and this book was sad and just nope. Also, I think it is hitting too close to reality right now.

Oh man, this ended like a lead balloon. I LOVED the first book, had major WTH about the second but this was just terribly, powerfully BORING. Oh, moar battle? Lemme get my map, and fall into a preachy prophecy about the power of light and mote it be! The second gen characters were so flat and undeveloped (both Hannah and Antonia deserved more) and honestly. Even if you are the savior of the world, you are still nineteen, gurl! You wouldn’t have such old lady speech patterns! Real bummer.
