i loved this book and this series.

it was such a gentle ending, not without losses but with so much happiness and love too. it was a bit long but that made me appreciate all the characters even more.

Fan of the first book. Big fan of the second book. And disappointed in the third book. It was predictable, sappy and way to self righteous. The reader never gets a look into the dark side or the "bad" government. Not even a peak as to how and why they developed and existed.

Highly Recommended

The final in Nora Roberts' The One trilogy is as riveting and easy to read as the previous two books. It focuses on the battles between light and dark for major bases in the USA as well as the final battle to end the dark.

A valid criticism of Roberts is that she's not a great writer of battles. The battle for one of the smaller cities was pretty much summed up with "the battle raged for 15 hours", while New York lasted weeks. Very little of the battles is actually described. But I don't particularly care. I always find it hard to visualise battles, so I'm fine with glossing over them and focusing on the planning and the relationships around the edges.

What I would have liked is a list of characters, or a bit more effort in reminding the reader who everyone is. At one point, everyone rushed to someone's house to see a dog pass away. It was maybe three chapters later that the story of how we first met the dog was recanted and I realised why it was such a big deal that the dog had died. The story should have been earlier. That was one of a few "Oh, that's who that person/animal was a few chapters back!" moments, and I've read all three books within a month. I pity anyone who tried to read them further apart.

Overall, a fun bit of escapism that I enjoyed despite it's flaws.

This review is for the trilogy

So Nora Roberts has written a million books for a reason - she knows her craft. World-building and plot and suspense and characters - all well crafted.

This is not a sexy series. Most action happens off page so if you’re looking for sexy times, this is not it.

It is about love though. Family and friends love just as much as romance. Love for community and togetherness. It’s layers upon layers.

My problem is that there are some old stereotypes played out in the various romances and in the interactions with the main characters. I feel and see and hear Roberts’ age and generation coming through in the assumptions and characterizations. This is the second series I’ve read of Roberts and I always picture her heroes and heroines as being straight from the 1980s.

Duncan is a great example. He’s all about big breasts as a teen and getting his hands on a curvy girl and when he’s angry or confused, he lashes out. He lacks boundaries too. And all of this is to say that I don’t find him a particularly good hero. He seems very 1980s masculine.

She tries to incorporate some diversity but it is sparing.

But I devoured this series. It’s an emotional and touching and funny and heartwarming book about how we can all do better at being better to each other in this world.

Man, its hard to write this review after getting through the first 2 books.

I thought the first book was brilliant! Great story line, well written, good plot! Second book, I kinda felt like I needed to get through to get to the finale in the 3rd book but when it came to the third book, none of the problems I had with the second book got corrected.

The tone through-out the book read almost like a YA or novel. I'd argue that it read even younger even though the book was catered towards a more mature audience. The characters were a little flat, the romance was cheesy, the buildups had really mediocre resolutions and just didn't capture my attention like other books do. In all it was just boring.

An exciting, entertaining listen with a few parts that I found especially touching. I can always count on Nora Roberts!

It was a long wait to finish this amazing series, but this book felt anti climatic. The battle scenes felt rushed and predictable, and the wins felt too easy. There wasn't an emotional roller coster to any of the elements of the finale. If you read only the first and last chapter, you've caught up on everything. Wish there would have been more struggles and losses. Still, happy to have read it and closed out the trilogy.

Loved it. Nice end to the trilogy. Not as much Fallen and Duncan as I wanted but still great.

Oh this is tricky... I really wanted more from it, but the book just felt a bit flat after the excitement of the first two instalments. It was a very long build-up to an inevitable conclusion. Now, that’s not necessary a bad thing, but it just felt like it was lacking a bit of oomph. I take some of the blame here, because it’s taken me a long time to get through this instalment, so maybe that’s why it didn’t really excite me as much as it might have come off I’d been able to plough through it in a week or two. Who knows?!
