BEWARE: SPOILERS. I’m a huge Nora Roberts fan, always more than satisfied with her novels but The Chronicles of The One trilogy was disappointing. As usual the writing, pace, and romance was great but I was disappointed in the arc of this story at times. We were introduced to a lot of characters and relationships but didn’t get to really see them through. Overall, it was an original story that I enjoyed for the most part but the biggest issue I had was the ending of book three: The Rise of Magicks. Lots of build up to an epic battle with Petra that never happens. The ending felt rushed and left me disappointed. Doesn’t make me less of a Nora fan though... still love her work!!

Satisfying ending to the trilogy. Much better paced than the second book.

So much happens in this novel that it's hard to even sum it all up! This is a great conclusion to this post-apocalyptic trilogy by Nora Roberts.

Everything has been leading up to a confrontation between the light and dark. Fallon was born to be the savior and Duncan was born to be her mate. They've been fighting against and circling this truth since they became old enough to step into a roll of protector when the were teenagers and had to kill to protect. Evil has had a foot-hold in this new world for far to long, big moves are about to be made and Fallon and Duncan are amongst those leading the way.

Battles are in abundance in this novel and tend to glossed over in the way that happens from authors that don't normally write battle scenes. Just the highlights of actions from the perspective of one or two people, when the strategy and aftermath take up a much bigger focus. Since this is a people driven series, it doesn't take away anything from the plot and probably helps a LOT since there are probably hundreds of battles that take place in about a year to a year and half period of time within the world. Fallon and Duncan have finally grown into themselves and seeing them come together is sweet. A decent trilogy altogether.

This was a pretty good end to an unusual trilogy for Roberts. Herr typical trilogies focus on three couples, one couple for each book, and an overarching Big Bad that they have to defeat. This one had a Big Bad but just one primary couple, along with many well-developed characters who played important roles in all three books.

There was a bit of a YA feel to this - the primary couple were, I think, around twenty years old - and, quite honestly, although the couple were apparently destined to be together I didn't feel a lot of chemistry between the two. Still, romance wasn't a huge part of the story so that lack of chemistry didn't affect the story line too terribly much. In all, an enjoyable read and a nice change of pace for Roberts.

This was a solid series!

This wrapped up The Chronicles of the One series perfectly - it was full of magic and drama and love. As a romance fan, a fantasy fan, and an apocalyptic fiction fan, this book (and series) was an amazing mash-up of the genres. Just epic!

I enjoyed settling into Fallon’s POV in this one, with most of the book told from her perspective. Getting to see her fears and challenges with her destiny as the savior was so rewarding - as always, Roberts does an amazing job of developing her characters so they really live in the mind!

Really, I’d give the book a 4.5, but my love of the series (and Roberts!) pushes it to a 5!

A great ending to this series. I shed some tears along the way. The love is strong in this book and I really felt it, through all the fighting it still was the thing that felt the most real. One of Nora Roberts best series.

Ok, I had high hopes... I enjoyed the first book in this series... .not a ton... but enough... then read the 2nd book which garnered 3 stars... for being boring and really just filler to book #3... and looked to this last book to pick up the pace... improve the investment in the characters and provide some driving plot.. nope. not this time... the plot is plodding and occurs without investment or real risk...

the writing is fine... I guess if you've written over 200 books (perhaps with a team?); which is what 5 per year over a 40 year career... author looks too young... so 10 books written per year? yikes.. then you don't have much time to hone them before printing... that many books a year is not art... it's factory work...

the worst thing though, by far, is the magick poetry... which is just slightly worse than the Vargon poetry in Hitchhiker's guide... I think Douglas Adams described the poet's bowels jumping up through the neck and throttling the poet's brain in a desperate attempt to save humanity...

sadly that didn't happen this time.. the spell poetry is just brutal... and if I never hear the phrase "so mote it be..." again, it will be too soon...

save yourself the trouble and expense... if you have some reading time, instead of this series, just go in to your kitchen and read cereal ingredients off the boxes... read them in the right order and maybe some will rhyme...
