I wanted to love this book. This was too joke-y for me. I didn't really love all of the pop cultural references for humor. The relationship was cute, but the conflict and the resolution were a flop for me. It also took forever for the couple to get together. Also, the typos were super distracting.

Overall this book was a letdown for me. Xavier was just too immature for me to like him much. His internal dialog was over done, it just seemed like filler at times. Also he would clearly be aware of why what he was doing was wrong and would think about the consequences and still do the thing. There were several editing errors that made the timeline of the story in the second half very confusing. My biggest issue with the story was the miscommunication between Xavier and Logan. I hate when the third act breakup could so easily be resolved with open and honest communication and this one definitely could have been. I didn't love the ending either and honestly more credit is given to Xavier for character growth than I actually thought happened.

The first thing that stood out to me is how his town, “population: 9,000” is repeatedly emphasized as such a small place to live. I live in a village of approximately 3,000 people. 9k is hustling and bustling! It was hard to believe that Xavier’s hometown was this super small, “quaint” place.

It didn’t feel to me that the characters had any intense chemistry. I especially did not like the age difference. Xavier even comments on how he’s closer in age to his daughter than Logan himself. The way Xavier often acted and was treated immaturely emphasized this.

The pop culture references bugged me, not because of my annoyance (which was frequent and mild) but because I feel like it dates the book. A lot of the references confused me, also. Maybe I’m just not with the times. Another completely unrelated non-issue is that I couldn’t stop thinking about Logan (Wolverine) and Professor Xavier from the X-Men when I read their names.

All of that being said, this was a quick, easy read that kept me interested enough. This was my first male x male romance novel and I liked it. I’d not hesitate to return to this author’s other books for new reads.

For some reason I felt so-so on this book even though it's a fun and well crafted read with inclusive rep. I liked the characters and overall story. Maybe nothing felt urgent to me. Xavier's grant seems to rarely come up, and I didn't really feel a lot of growth or change overall. It took a while to figure out Xavier's age because he seems immature and others treat him like a teen. Many aspects of Xavier made me read him as ADHD, which I enjoyed.
