Pre-ordered, recommended by Maxine (Booklover Catlady).
Suspense is laking a bit, with the constant chapter-pov-changing, every time it gets interesting. Also the Diary was while realistic in speech (of a young teen), it was not interesting enough.
Also I do not like Sam, I would have liked to have Clairy more space in the book. For the start of a series about a serial-killer who is really interesting 1 added star, else I would have given 3.5 rounded down to 3.
Recommended, will probably pre-order and read the next book, but as it is from the info clear that Sam is again featuring as the MC, I am ambivalent about that.

For some reason, although it was at times sadistic, cruel and bloody, I would have wanted more of that, do not question my state of mind (currently listening to Evanescences "Broken", which is totally fitting).

Closer to a 3 than a 4 for this one - held interest when I had the time, but didn’t keep me coming back to listen constantly.

Chicago Police have been tailing a prolific serial killer, known as the 4MK killer, for years. He always follows the same plan - takes the child of someone he believes to have committed evil, kidnaps them and sends their body parts (ear, eyes and then tongue) to their father before killing them. Porter was a detective on the first case and he has been chasing the man for years to no avail. Then he is called to a road traffic accident…because the man who died was about to post a white box containing a human ear.
They believe they have finally found their killer. But they still need to track down the intended victim.
As the hunt for our intended victim takes place, we learn more about her father and the crimes he is involved in. We build a picture of the detective throwing himself into his work to get over the murder of his wife. We also, through a diary left at the scene, learn about the background of our killer.
There were some graphic depictions of killing - which we can’t avoid in a book on this subject - but as we move through the days and learn that things are not quite what they seem it became a lot more tense. The audacious element of our killer’s activities really were astounding…and the revelations towards the end suggest the next parts in the trilogy could be quite intriguing.

My Rating Style: 4⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ ticked most boxes ALMOST LOVED IT!!!

The Four Monkey Killer has been reigning terror on Chicago for over five years and he remains unknown to police. It comes as a massive shock to them when his body is found hit by a bus when he is trying to deliver his latest message to police. Does this mean his latest victim is alive and can be saved??

Sam Porter the lead investigator on the 4MK murders knows that this killer is sneaky and likes to play games so it is not going to be easy to figure out the latest lead. Sam finds the personal diary of 4MK in his pocket and he is dragged down the path of a psychopath to find answers to find the girl alive.

Will the diary help Sam unravel the mystery of 4MK in time for him to find his last victim?? Or is the Fourth Monkey Killer not quite done and is ready to checkmate from beyond the grave???

We have all heard “Hear No Evil”
