Solid 3.5 stars:

What I liked:
- Mother/daughter relationships
- Writing that illustrated the weight of expectation
- Friendships
- Evolution of family and family ties

What I didn’t like
- The love triangle
- The lack of insight Izumi has (then again, she is only 18)
- The lack of explanation of how some of aforementioned relationships and decisions are made

Tokyo Dreaming is a refreshing coming of age story of a young woman learning to find what she wants in her life without having to make everyone in her life happy first. The narrator is authentic and believable and the ending brought the joy to my heart and a smile to my lips. Who doesn’t enjoy a happy ending where everyone gets what they want.
