This one was a slow starter for me, I couldn't get into it right away but when it got interesting I couldn't put it down. It definitely has a lot more action and heat than the first one. I enjoyed it.

Blair and Larkin complement each other so well. I love their relationship and how good they are with each other. Gosh, the chapter where she is fighting all those vamps by herself is so badass and then when he comes swooping down my heart simply aches. Love the continued character development, and second half of the journey our beloved circle experienced. Good stuff! On to battle!

Predictable and at points dull. But the characters pulled me through books one and two- and yes I'll be picking up the third book to complete the series!

I'm not one for fantasy, but I couldn't put this one down. Roberts blends some well known concepts into an engaging mix, with a generous dose of romance. If you enjoyed the first book, you'll love this one.

I can’t put my finger on exactly why, but when Nora Roberts writes “badass” characters like Blaire I find them shallower and far less interesting than the other female tropes she tends towards. This book picked up the pace after the first book fairly well but I’m not sure how much I would have been motivated to finish were I not interested in getting to Cian and Moira’s story.

3.5 I liked this one better than the first, but I still didn’t love it. I found Larken and Blair to be interesting characters and I liked how they connected to one another. There wasn’t a whole lot of unnecessary drama/obstacles between them, which was good. But some of the fighting and the details of battle is getting to be a little much for me in this series- I didn’t need quite all those gory details about the victims. I like the setting of Geall tho, and I’m very intrigued by Moira and Cian’s story. It will be interesting to see how Roberts ties this all up in the final book.

I only started reading Nora Roberts last year, and she was instrumental in helping me out of an academia-induced, years-long reading slump. However, after gorging myself on two trilogies and two standalones, the sugar rush is fading.

This series is remarkably similar to her Stars of Fortune trilogy – there’s an Irish magician, an artist, a female badass, a himbo, some version of a cursed dude, and a woman who’s not of this world. They form a circle selected by the gods to save the world from a Big Bad. If anyone else’s name were attached to this, there’d be a clear case for plagiarism.

So, is it fun? Yes. Is it readable? Yes. But am I getting sick of it? Also yes.
