I greatly enjoyed "Is Your Blood as Red as This", "Sorry Doesnt Sweeten her Tea", "If A Book is Locked Theres Probably a Good Reason for That Dont You Think", and "A Brief History of the Homley Wench Society". "Presence" and "Drownings" were interesting enough that it makes up for much I didn't care for "Books and Roses" and the one about Freddy so overall this rounds out to a 4/5.

I never have any problem writing reviews of books I'm not 100% sure about. But books I love? The words can take weeks to come together. So this isn't really a proper review, it's just a gushing of love for this fucking masterful short story collection. I'm not sure a collection of magic realist stories has stirred me so much since I first read The Bloody Chamber - and I do not say that lightly. Each story left me feeling radiant and enriched and inspired.

My favourite overall was Sorry Doesn't Sweeten Her Tea, but I loved all of them.

More in depth review coming... some day, if I can find the words.

This is the first short story collection that I have ever read and I absolutely adored it. I would really recommend this to people who enjoy stories involving magical realism and fairytale elements and also to people who haven't read short story collections before.

I honestly enjoyed every story (some more than others) and I found their themes to be completely unique and captivating. I also loved the amount of diversity that was present in the stories, it didn't feel like Helen Oyeyemi forced it at all and the issues of sexuality (particularly the representation of same sex couples) and races weren't presented as particularly noteworthy topics.

I enjoyed the fact that multiple characters make appearances in different stories but I did end up feeling like it was slightly unnecessary at one point. Still would 100% recommend.
Great characters, great stories, overall great time.

This is one of the most unique and creative short story collections I’ve ever read. Each of the short stories centers around a key but in such different and unexpected ways. Each story drew me in, puzzled me, and made me want more.

dont ask me what the stories were about i did not understand any of them. but helen oyeyemi writes like a poet.... it is beautiful and i dont understand anything but i just read on !

While reading this book, I often found myself wondering how Helen Oyeyemi’s mind works, she truly has a beautiful mind. I am not a fan of collections of short stories, they often leave me unsatisfied. However, I had a completely different experience with this one. While I was left yearning for me, I was also equally grateful to have experienced the story! Beautifully written!
