I understood roughly half of the pop culture references, which is one of the reasons why this books wasn't a page turner for me. The sci-fi storyline meshed well with the futuristic setting of the story. Those interested in video games and the use of technology in the future will likely enjoy Ready Player One.

I’m surprised by how much I enjoyed this book. Hard to put down.
Honestly I'm SHOCKED at how this book captivated me! As someone who does not play videogames and knows nothing about the 80s, basically all the references went way over my head, and STILL I was so intrigued. The characters, the semi-apocalyptic real world, the quest, the corporate villains, the love story, the friendships - it just totally hit the mark for me. It was just so fun and interesting! I also very much enjoyed Wil Wheaton's narration as it fit the character perfectly - and bonus for the fact that he even gets a mention in the book.

Love the 80s? This might be the book for you. The pop culture references provide a fun trip down memory lane as the main character, Wade Watts, tries to win a video game contest. Ready Player One is definitely my guilty pleasure read of the summer!

Decent idea but poor execution and plot development. MC succeeded at everything he tried so there was no tension
3 stars. It was OK. Ik heb hier naar geluisterd als luisterboek en moet eerlijk zeggen dat het soms een beetje langdradig werd en mijn gedachten afdwaalden. Heel veel info over games en jaren 80 popcultuur wat mij niet zo heel veel boeit. De romance was een beetje cringy. Al met al is het geen slecht boek. Ik vind het concept ontzettend goed bedacht en zou ook wel de moeite nemen om de film te kijken maar het boek was gewoon niet echt iets voor mij. Als je houdt van games , science-fiction en andere nerdy dingen dan zal je dit boek geweldig vinden.
