Loved how this brought back so many memories of my childhood and the things I loved from video games and computers to the music, literature, and movies. For someone who doesn't have a frame of reference or absolute fascination with the 80s, I imagine this might be like reading Thomas Pynchon's Gravity's Rainbow with it's detailed and often arcane references to a bygone era (the 40s).

To me this was a DaVinci Code for 80s geeks. Not exactly hard hitting prose, but highly engaging and entertaining.

I started this book last year, but lost a lot of the motivation to keep going. I decided to give it another try on audiobook and I’m sure glad I did! I saw the movie when it was in theaters, and this was a lot different than I remember. I think they made a lot of changes for the movie, but it was a pleasant surprise that things genuinely shocked me. I appreciated a lot of the references, and as somebody who wasn’t alive in the 80s I’m sure I missed a lot of of them too lol. But I understand the hype on this, I think it’s fun no matter how old you are.

So fun, so unique, so unbelievably wonderfully geeky.

I was a little worried that the story wouldn’t be exciting anymore because I had already watched the movie, but the book and the movie are really 2 totally different stories! The book is so much more detailed, exciting and extensive.

The 80’s references were so incredibly fun and nostalgic and the audiobook narration by Wil Wheaton was excellent.
A really good time.

I have very little video game or 80s knowledge but this was a really fun read. Hard to put down. There are little things I didn’t love that felt unnecessary like the amount of profanity, a couple random sexual references and one small rant about religion making no sense that was like uhh why did you have to include that, but overall the story was exciting and engaging.
