Sometimes you search for books and sometimes they find you. The latter was the case with this one.
This book was an answer of my prayers: “What to do with my life?”. It is about John who in an attempt to get away from work and relief from it to recharge his batteries after a well deserved vacation is stuck in traffic in the middle of nowhere and decides to take a least travelled road. With little petrol left he finds a café in the middle of nowhere and decides to stop for a meal.
In the menu there are 3 written questions:
1. Why are you here?
2. Are you afraid of death?
3. Are you fulfilled?
By engaging conversation with the people who work at the café John starts to rethink and evaluate his life and reaches some conclusions:
1. You should do things that you enjoy and love everyday.
2. Only give your time to thinks you believe in, don’t waste time in emails, letters, advertisement and so, on things that you don’t need because if you dedicate 20 minutes of your day to that, you end up losing 1 year of you life (within your life span) something that doesn’t bring you anything.
3. Adapt yourself to the flow of life, you’ll get easily and quickly tired if you keep swimming “against the current”.
4. Learn new things, be curious, be out there so you get exposed to new things that could become your life purpose.
5. What is your “purpose in life” and how will you complete it?
Beautifully written in a way that makes you reflect about your own life! Exactly what I needed in where I’m at life!

This is for people who have never questioned there life or the meaning of it in any way...
Literally written for NPC's which is completly fine, but it shooks me that it is so popular even tho it's the most basic thing I have ever read in my life.
If you have ever read anything or thought about the meaning of life and how you can lead one where you do what you want and not what other people want you to do, you won't find any answers in this book.
It is for people who have never questioned why they do what they do and if they are really happy.
This is a book that you should maybe read when you are 12-16 or something, because than it makes sense, that you have never thought about questions like that.
It is really fascinating to me that there are so many people walking trough life and never serioussly ask themselves why they do what they do.
They learn things in school because their parents tell them to they, get kids because that's what you are supposed to do and work and try to get as much money as they can because than they can decide for themselves, what they want to do.
Still if there are that many people that actually feel like this book opend their eyes, than it is good that it exists.

I have mixed feelings about this one. I believe that the messages in this book are truly important but I also believe that the author has formulated them from a very privileged perspective.
When I was reading this book some years ago I did not notice it. However, I guess as you grow older you learn more things and realize that there is more in this world than just your own front yard.
I myself am very privileged too as I can afford the education I need to pursue a job that will probably fulfill me or provide me with the necessary know-how to not be dependent on my employer and maybe some day become my own boss or I quit the job and easily find a new one when I am not happy or feel that my job is not fulfilling. NOT EVERYONE HAS THAT OPTION! Pursuing happiness is much more complicated and complex. And some people need to work to basically survive and pay the rent and could not afford to do something else or even travel the world to find what they love. Basically, they are not managers buying unnecessary luxury things like him or Anne in the book. Capitalism is indeed cruel but the problem is that it does not allow anyone to go fishing until they rest in piece. You have an accident and then no savings for example. I do not like the part when they were so sarcastic about it. When you talk about such high salaries then it is clear that money is not everything and you survive with a bit less so you can pursue whatever you want or take a break. Well not always the case!
The advices in this book definitely apply in certain aspects in my opinion because you do indeed need to find a balance between work and life and sometimes you need some time to realize that. I also enjoyed the turtle story and the setting in the Café.
