Fantasy books like this don't come out anymore. Where the writer explains so much and yet leaves mystery behind every page not just about the plot but about the world itself. It almost comes down to a lovecraftian level of mystery. Combine that with colorful characters, a vibrant story and you get one of the best first parts of any series! 5/5

3.5 stars. It’s the typical “hero’s journey” story, which, while it is never original, it’s usually pretty fun. There can also be plenty of comparisons made to Tolkien and other sword and sorcery stories prior to the 90’s. That being said, this is a mostly fun read with lovable characters. It really could have used a trimming down, though. It’s length makes for a story that is oddly paced and drags.

ADULT and YA Fantasy
I started reading this series as a senior in high school and finished as an adult. The only complaint I have is how many times I memorized symbols that never came up again haha.
I loved the huge amounts of growth almost every single character goes through and it feels like the correct next step for them. Politics were huge, magic was huge, relationships and trust were king in this series. Loved it.

The characters didn’t really interest me. I was looking forward to reading a big high fantasy series, but couldn’t get into it the way I wanted because I didn’t really care about any of the characters

incredibly good book, the narrative was greatly immersive, the characters deep and likeable, and the world building is great. Love the wheel of time mythology and the legend of the dragon.
