Favorite character in this series ever!! Gregori is soo secure in his abilities but so vulnerable when it comes to the woman he adores. His hidden sense of humor and his compassion win me over everytime. If you continue to read this wonderful series then he will be seen in quite a few of them with all his abilities and strengths. I especially enjoyed the Heroine once she really accepted him. Some of Feehan's books heroines seem to bitchy and complainers but Savannah shows herself as the Daughter of the Prince not some female who has to be forced into saving an awesome Carpathian from walking into the sun or worse.

I love this series. I am re reading them for a fifth time! Gregori is one of my all time favorite characters. Savannah is the perfect life mate for him. We also get introduced to Gary Jansen. Gary’s storyline develops throughout the rest of the series. The book is full of passion and action. A must read!
Back in the day, in the era of Twilight, after hunting down new vampire romance books. The Dark series became a rival for Twilight. After buying several books in this series, I've decided to try and reread the Dark series. Starting with Dark Magic, the story is so strikingly similar to Twilight. Our young-ish protagonist Savannah's centuries older life mate Gregori comes to "claim" her.
My first thoughts on this book were five stars, no notes, but after rereading it…I realized that it's not the best thing ever. One thing about Savannah that I liked is her voice of reason. She knows that her young age paired with a century-old man isn't ideal, and he holds tremendous power. This power frightens her especially hearing the stories of Gregori and his fighting for his people. However, halfway through the book, Savannah starts to deviate from her early worries of being paired with a powerful male.
Dark Magic is a very dull book since most of it is about Gregori, who is continuously running into people mistaking the Carpathians as vampires. There isn't much focus on the relationship between Gregori and Savannah. Instead, due to their mind-reading, Savannah reads Gregori's mind and forgives him for his shortcomings as a significant other. Of course, the possessiveness of Gregori and most Carpathians with their mates is due to females' low birth. Even as Savannah tries to show a small ounce of independence or help Gregori, she is shut down or ridiculed for putting herself in danger. There are moments, later in the book, that Gregori decides to work on his possessiveness.
This book mostly focuses on an old man continually getting into dangerous situations and complains once his younger wife tries helping him.

Well....ahem. This book suffers from the same flaws as Dark Prince: the writing is too soppy, the same phrases are repeated too often, and falling into the romance genre failure (over dramatization.) But, BUT, this book is a treat. I had a soft spot in my heart for Dark Prince and its characters. When Gregori, the Dark One, appeared at the end I was intrigued. When skimming for other books in this series, I was glued to the back covers, wanting not to read in order, but the read the one telling his story. Finally this is it, and I'm glad to say I'm not disappointed.
I guess I love bad boys, Gregori keeps my heart fluttering. Mikhail was tall, handsome, and dark, and Gregori is even darker and more authoritative. His overly domineering ways would get on a woman's nerves, but you see a side of him here that really made my heart reach out to him. His power and strength are a major turn-on. The heroine Savannah is adorable, has a wickedly teasing personality, inner strength, and the right amount of hesitancy (always an erotic touch.) So yep, another case of the characters making the book find a permanent place in my head.
I have to give Kudos to Feehan for something else as well. A minor character, a friend of Savannah's, dies at the beginning of the novel. Typically movies and books grieve at first, then never mention the poor sap again. Or they do bring it up at the end as a point, not with feeling. Here Savannah grieves realistically, not 'getting over it' overnight. I loved that! She wasn't mopey or whiney about it, but it came across very convincing. The more genuine the emotion, the better.
The continuation of the human vampire hunters was welcomed, as was the villain. Kept a mystery until the end, the swamp tale was creatively disturbing. I grew a bond with the new human character and hope he returns as well, as his personality was beyond endearing. The final pages were heartwarming and inspiring.
It is true that there is a formula each book follows, but the personal story told here was one I actually care about. Could I choose between Dark Prince or Dark Magic? Nope, it's impossible. They're both great in their own rights.

1.5 stars for helping me find closer with this series! I was expecting so much more from Savannah, the daughter of Mikhail and Raven from the first book. I think it may just be my own taste but I like strong, powerful heroines who don’t need alpha male cavemen to rescue them. Even though it was pretty obvious how Gregory claimed her for himself before she was even born and she never really had a chance, this book made me nauseous by the first chapter. After choking down this installment and loathing both Gregory and Savannah throughout, I believe I can’t now officially stop with this series.
I vividly remember trying to read this book for the second time in 2012--I was sitting across my college roommate at the time describing how the hero is HELLA rapey, from manipulating the heroine's GENETICS IN THE WOMB to setting himself up as her ONLY FRIEND while she's growing up to LITERALLY RAPING HER but lol its kool b/c now that he raped her she gets why is was necessary, she HAD to be with him or the millennia-old dude will kill everyone (no it's not manipulative it's LUV) & also all of this already terrible awful shit is more awful because it's like the most DRAMATIC may-december romance you never asked for.
I think i was so traumatized by it I forgot to put it into GR

After the second book, I hated Gregori because this all " imprinting babies" should have ended with Twilight, my opinion.
by the time I got to their book, he did nothing to regain my favour. WHy does every male needs to gaslight the female in this series, and is not like Savanna is not from the same culture and she would be afraid.
so, why not give her time to understand that a chapter in her life is closing and a new one is starting.

I had to change my plan of just reading 1 of my favourite authors books once a week for this book, I read Desire and Gold to get to this book, because it was Gregori and Savannah's book, which I just had to read, and it's Gary's intro to the series! Can't wait to read more, and this was a fantastic book!!!
Gregori’s and Savannah’s story! Finally!!!
I have been waiting for this one since the very first book. Gregori, the Dark One, healer of the Carpathians, the most feared of all Carpathians manipulated Savannah’s DNA to become his life-mate from the womb. She had no chance. He knew before her conception that she would be his. Creepy much?!
He gave her time to grow up and almost turned vampire before he went to find her in San Francisco where she was performing her magic show.
When he finally claimed her, it was brutal and down to the freaking wire! She saved him from a fate worse than death.
Their book is all about the challenge he faced becoming the life-mate of a woman many centuries younger than him, her need for a freedom that he couldn’t give and his guilt and fear that he was wrong in manipulating her to be his life-mate.
The story takes you from San Francisco to beautiful, magical New Orleans, where they find themselves in more danger from the Society and a deranged Master Vampire.
The New Orleans story line was amazing! Loved reading about the Old Man deep in the bayou. Loved the way the author brought out the true sultriness, darkness and charm of the magical side of the area. The Voodoo, the Jazz, the heat and humidity. I almost felt like I was really there.
I am captivated with this series and can recommend it to anyone looking wanting to read an excellent paranormal series.
ps... Gregori made a friend! A human friend! I like Gary. Lol
