Rereading these as a parent has made me realize I want to unhaul them. I never want my kids to be treated as Junie is as some points in this book by her teacher. She’s dismissed and quite ignored in some aspect. She is a personality and most of the adults in the book don’t handle that well which I don’t feel is okay. I just kind of got the mama ick from a lot of the things done by the adults and I don’t want my kids reading it thinking those things are okay being done to them. That’s a personal choice though and it hurts my little reader heart who used to love these books.

Seriously hilarious. I laugh way more than my 3 year old at these books.

Thank you, Junie B. Jones and Barbara Park, for introducing me to the joys of reading. I really did think that Junie's little brother was an actual monkey.

Another reread from my childhood that makes my life a bit brighter.

In high school I did a "speech" (basically acting out a condensed version) on this book. It just so happened that another girl in my league did the exact same book.

So after this audiobook, I've now heard three different voice versions for monkey business Junie B. I'm partial to the energy level that I brought to it, but I'm biased. XP

(But on topic of the book, I loved this one especially as a child because I was the only person that I knew at the time who was old enough to remember when my baby brother was born. So a lot of Junie B.'s feelings and observations are really accurate to being a 4+ year old first-time older sibling.)

holy moly bad! this was my first Junie B. Jones and I picked it up because I was looking for short chapter books to read to a preschooler. Junie was annoying, bratty, and the plot was boring. the book was purposefully written in poor English. I have a hard time believing how these could be so popular for so long! Believe me, I don't mind trashy books, but these are over the top. The preschooler liked it okay, but I think more for the fact that she loved that I was reading to her so much and my sidenotes about "wow, that was really mean!", and "geez, that didn't seem very smart", etc

It was AWESOME the best Junie B.Jones book ever!!!!

Entertaining! Read it as part of checking out the banned children's books.

As I prepare for a summer camp based on Junie's antics for 2nd-4th graders I find that these books, although written about a kindergartner are a little more suited to the 1-3 age group.

I love the concept (albeit done quite often in children's literature) that a child misunderstands adult language or a turn of a phrase and runs with it.

And although sometimes I fall into the critical parents who find Junie to be a brat, I think this type of huge adjustment in a child's life warrants some kick back, and Junie kicks it back with spunk.

I am excited to adapt some of Barbara Park's stories into songs, dances and to have the children enact the characters, and the story from this book will definitely be one of them!
