Just gave to my 9 year old girl to read.

Loved this movie when I was younger and had to check out the book. I enjoyed it very much. It is a great, fun read that is good for children and adults alike. : )

Just like the anime we used to watch when we were little... I love how imaginative girls think. Their worlds are much more dazzling that even the daily mundane life would have a certain charm.

I had seen the movie as a kid and loved the story ever since. So when I came across the book I had to read. It's about a little girl named Sara who's father is drafted and she is sent to a school for girls. She is very popular but very humble. All the girls like her for her kindness and her story telling. Sara faces challenges when her father passes, she's not sure if she can continue to be kind when there is so much cruelness around her.

I wonder if I have always only loved his book so much as a child and now (why not, I'm still exactly the same me!) because of this kind of *trauma* I have of constantly being misunderstood by all people close to me. In my mind, Miss Munchin is always my mum, the seminary is the world, and I'm still here waiting for some magic to happen where I will be finally loved as a princess, instead of being unfairly accused of being a liar by everyone. I wonder if anyone has read the book under the same light?

Be still my beating heart - all this nostalgic thumping might be the death of me. Beloved childhood classics don't often hold up to the harsh light of adulthood. A Little Princess is one that does. It's well written, not at all preachy (unlike many books for young ladies that were written around the same time), and is compact and concise. So many classics are long winded and monotonous, but this is an old fashioned princess romp with a great plot and lovely imagery.
