This is a very sweet story about a young, resourceful girl who manages to survive some brutal circumstances to come out the other side better than before. The story of Sara Crewe is one that I was familiar with from my childhood but there was something wonderful about reading the story again as an adult.
There is something a bit “Anne of Green Gables” in this story, as Sara spends most of the book pretending that she is someone or somewhere else. I suppose that makes sense given her circumstances though. This is a great story for young girls (or young boys) to read as its not particularly difficult but also has a satisfactory ending.

I honestly didn’t expect to enjoy this as much as I did. I adore all the characters in this, the quirkiness of it, the memorable aspects of it. There’s a drastic change for the Princess’ living situation and you see how others respond to this. It really does show how anybody’s circumstances can change just like that.
