I usually relate to, and fall in love with, one or two characters; in The Guardian, however, I loved nearly all of them. Each person brought something special and important to the story and to the relationships.

I absolutely loved this book! I laughed, I cried, I contemplated, I laughed and cried some more... The roller coaster of events is animated but incredibly believable. From Richard's creepy tendencies to Mike's heady compassion to Henry's older brother duties to Julie's desire to be happy and Singer's mission to be The Guardian.... Definitely a story I'll be recommending to others

I thought this book was amazing. Sparks did an amazing job touching on a topic that is so real and more serious then a lot of people realize. From the very beginning there was something just not right about Richard which increasingly became more clear as the book went on. The man was a sick psycho path who had chosen Julie as his next obsession. He was willing to stop at nothing in order to have her. Even through living in fear of this monster, Julie stayed strong. She sought the help and support of friends and authorities. Julie also had her guardian, Singer (her dog), at her side ready to protect her til the end. Her relationship with her dog proved just how strong love can make you and save you. With everyone's help, including Singer, Julie's dog, they were able to take down The scumbag, Richard, and give home exactly what he deserved. Definitely an intense story full of love, hate, obsession, and suspense.

Really well written romance with a suspenseful twist. I had a hard time holding the book in my hands until I was about halfway through it, and it was difficult again at the end, but since it didn't take as long to read the last one hundred pages.... very good read!

Not like any other Nicholas Spark book and not in a good way. The ending was really frustrating and rushed.

I was actually very sadly disappointed that Singer did not have a bigger part of the book. I was mentally prepared for him to be a literally guardian, like possibly dying to protect her (which he somewhat did but not till the last chapter). It was way more about her deciding who to love, and not a love story about her dog.

This book is a little darker in subject matter than previous novels I read by him.

Julie husband dies early in their marriage and she is devastated by grief and life without him.

He left an unexpected gift for her, a dog to help her to live again. With his blessing via his last note to her she decides it is time to date again. Richard seems to be the perfect gentlemen, very attentive, special dates, and unique gifts. Only issue is she doesn't feel anything about him and his kiss leaves her wondering if the spark is gone for love forever.

In the meantime Mike her late husband's best friend remains in the shadow of Julie life and refuses to confess his feelings for her. After a funny evening fixing a broken water faucet she realizes she is very comfortable around Mike and after some guilt about her husband they begin a relationship.

Other problem is Richard is obsessed with Julie and won't go away. I had to remember this was wrote in 2005 when police looked at stalking cases differently. Also advances in technology we have now, wasnt available then especially social media.

This became a heart pounding read as I couldnt figure out what Richard would do next and Julie fear jumped off the pages. It all comes to a head when he physically attacks Julie and Singer the dog comes to her rescue.

The aftermath of this terror resounded off the pages. It would be a 5 star read except I don't like what happened to one character. It mad me mad.

The Guardian wasn't a typical Nicholas Sparks though. A thrilling read.

Some characters felt really fleshed out (like Julie, I liked her instincts most of the time) but others seemed quite one-dimensional (almost everybody, especially Andrea. Mike seemed overly stupid to me--came across as significantly younger than he was supposed to be).
Richard was effectively creepy, though I would have liked more about what he was considering as his motives. I felt Sparks really just pointed to a shitty/abusive childhood as the cause and then never explored this; I got the willies reading some of the things he did throughout the plot, but would have enjoyed his twisted reasoning more.

Book was very predictable, much more a thriller (IMO) than any sort of romance. I thought Julie's feelings toward Richard were okay: she likes him but doesn't feel much else and also thinks his dates are unrealistic/too fancy/not to her lifestyle. But then she decides that she really liked Mike and wanted to date him very quickly, without a "trigger" or something that changed her thinking (almost insta-love).
There were a few times this book came across to me more as a Mary Higgins Clark than a Nicolas Sparks.

I really wanted to finish this book... I'm just do busy with summer work for school, belting with my baby sister, and band camp, that I couldn't. In going to try finishing it when I have time. I really liked what I read of the book which was about half. I did not like Richard at all though. I have a feeling he's gonna turn out to be evil... I was rooting for Mike the entire time. Singer reminds me of my dogs in the way that he barks at almost anything. :)

Whyyyy?!? WHYYYY?!!!!!!!! I hated the ending. HATED it. I really found it so sad w nearly no silver lining that it ruined the whole book. The book was scary and sad and then ended w the most crushing blow of all. The little hero moment at the end didn't even make sense and then it ended horribly anyway. I did NOT like it. If that would have ended better this would probably be a 5 star review. The book was very suspenseful w a nice love story which I enjoyed. However only if you want to be left w horrible thoughts circulating in your head will you love this book. For me- no thanks. I'd rather not need antidepressants after reading a book I expected to be fluff.
